Overview:
The commodity Trader is required to manage buying and selling operations as an intermediary between suppliers and customers for both domestic and international markets. The role involved sourcing, negotiation, pricing strategy, contract execution, logistics coordination, and ensuring compliance with trade licensing requirements, import/export regulations, and risk management practices. A strong understanding of international trade laws, customs procedures, and commercial documentation is essential to support successful and compliant trading operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Trading and Commercial Operations
- Manage the full trading cycle including sourcing suppliers, negotiating purchase and sales contracts, and executing commercial deals.
- Act as the key intermediary between suppliers and customers to ensure competitive pricing and profitable trading margins.
- Source new business opportunities, evaluate potential markets, and expand trading networks to support business growth.
- Conduct commercial analysis including pricing structures, shipping costs, trade duties, taxes, and financing models.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, customers, brokers, logistics partners, and other industry stakeholders.
Regulatory, Licensing & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with domestic and international trade regulations, laws, and licensing requirements.
- Manage all required trade documentation and regulatory permits including: Import and export licenses, domestic trading licenses, custom compliance and port clearance procedures, certificates of origin, and product certifications (where applicable).
- Work with legal and compliance teams to ensure contractual accuracy and regulatory adherence.
- Monitor changes in trade regulations, environmental standards, government policies, and industry certifications that impact trading activities.
Logistics and Documentations
- Coordinate shipping logistics including delivery scheduling, freight booking, customs clearance, warehousing arrangements, and transportation planning.
- Manage trade documentation such as commercial invoices, packing lists, sales contracts, bills of lading, and LC or DP/DA requirements.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of all documentation to avoid operational delays.
- Collaborate closely with Finance, Operations, Logistics, and Warehouse teams for smooth transaction execution.
Marketing Intelligence and Risk Management
- Perform market research and trend analysis on pricing movements, supply-demand conditions, competitor strategies, and currency factors.
- Conduct risk assessment related to financial exposure, logistics challenges, quality variations, regulatory restrictions, and geopolitical impacts.
- Develop strategies to mitigate commercial risks and protect business interests.
Reporting and Performance Monitoring
- Prepare weekly/monthly reports including pricing trends, profitability analysis, sales performance, and contract tracking.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in International Business, International Trade, Supply Chain, Marketing, Finance, Economics, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commodity trading, import/export, procurement, or B2B industrial sales.
- Strong understanding of trade licensing requirements, customs procedures, and international logistics.
- Experience with trade contracts, LC handling, shipping documentation, and Incoterms.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical decision-making skills.
- Ability to perform market and risk analysis with strong commercial mindset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia; Mandarin is an added advantage.
- Willing to travel domestically and internationally when required.

Pay: RM2,500.00 - RM10,000.00 per month
