Job Summary
The Costing Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate product costing, quotation analysis, and cost
estimations to support business development and manufacturing operations. The role involves evaluating
material, labor, process, tooling, and overhead costs while ensuring competitive pricing and profitability.
The Costing Engineer will collaborate closely with Sales, Engineering, Procurement, Production, and Finance
teams to support customer quotations, new product introductions, and continuous cost improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Product Costing & Estimation
Prepare detailed product cost calculations based on drawings, BOM, process flow, and
manufacturing requirements.
Analyze material usage, manufacturing processes, machine time, labor cost, and overhead
allocation.
Develop accurate quotation costing for new projects and customer RFQs.
Review and validate costing assumptions and production feasibility.
Quotation Management
Support Sales and Business Development teams in quotation preparation.
Ensure quotations are submitted within required timelines.
Monitor quotation revisions and maintain proper costing documentation.
Analyze quotation profitability and commercial viability.
Cost Analysis & Improvement
Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process optimization.
Conduct variance analysis between estimated and actual production cost.
Support value engineering and productivity improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with sourcing and engineering teams for alternative material or process
recommendations.
Technical Evaluation
Review engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
Work with production and process engineering teams to validate manufacturing methods.
Support new product introduction and engineering change activities.
Evaluate tooling, fixture, and process cost implications.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Coordinate with Procurement for material pricing updates.
Work closely with Production to understand manufacturing capabilities and efficiencies.
Collaborate with Finance for margin and profitability analysis.
Participate in project meetings and customer discussions when required.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate costing databases and historical costing records.
Prepare costing reports, analysis summaries, and management presentations.
Support ISO documentation and audit requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial
Engineering, or related field.
Experience
Minimum 2–5 years of costing, estimation, or manufacturing engineering experience.
Experience in metal fabrication, sheet metal, machining, assembly, automotive, furniture, or
industrial manufacturing is preferred.
Experience handling RFQ and quotation activities is an advantage.
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production costing.
Ability to read technical drawings and BOM structures.
Knowledge of material costing, labor costing, and machine costing.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.
Familiarity with AutoCAD or CAD software is an advantage.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and numerical skills.
Good communication and coordination skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple quotations and deadlines.
Strong problem-solving mindset.
Pay: RM3,000.00 - RM4,000.00 per month
