Job Description

Responsibilities

Job Purpose

To oversee and manage all customs and regulatory compliance activities within the logistics function, ensuring adherence to local and international trade regulations, including requirements set by relevant authorities such as Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), while ensuring efficient and timely clearance of shipments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with customs regulations and requirements imposed by Royal Malaysian Customs Department, as well as regulatory bodies such as Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).
  • Manage and oversee applications, renewals, and compliance requirements for permits issued by MITI, including those under the Strategic Trade Act 2010 (STA).
  • Ensure proper classification of strategic items and compliance with export control requirements, including screening, licensing, and reporting obligations under STA.
  • Ensure correct tariff classification, duty, and tax application to prevent non-compliance and penalties.
  • Resolve customs and regulatory issues, delays, or discrepancies effectively and promptly
  • Maintain accurate records for audit purposes, including STA-related documentation and licensing records.
  • Monitor updates to customs laws, STA regulations, and policies from MITI and MIDA, and communicate impacts internally.
  • Support internal and external audits related to customs compliance, including STA audits.
  • Provide guidance and training to team members on customs procedures, STA compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure smooth and compliant logistics operations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in logistics, with at least 3–4 years in customs affairs or trade compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of Malaysian import/export regulations, customs procedures, and trade compliance.
  • Familiar with STA application processes and requirements under the Strategic Trade Act 2010, including permit application, item classification, and compliance obligations.
  • Experience dealing with MITI permits and MIDA-related processes is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with tariff classification, SST, duty exemptions, and Free Trade Agreements (FTA).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and logistics/customs systems (e.g., Customs, Dagang Net).
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
