Abacus Strategic Advisory Hiring! Full Time Backend Engineer (Payments & Ledger) in WP Kuala Lumpur - Ricebowl

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; minimum 5 years of backend engineering experience, including at least 3 years with Go in production

• Expert-level Go: concurrency model and goroutine scheduling, channels, context propagation and timeout control, sync primitives, GC and memory escape analysis, profiling with pprof

• Familiar with mainstream Go web frameworks and ecosystem (gin / echo / chi or equivalent)

• Expert-level PostgreSQL: index design and query plans, transaction isolation levels and locking, deadlock diagnosis, large-table partitioning, and writing and tuning complex SQL without an ORM; solid Redis knowledge including data structures and common cache failure modes (penetration, breakdown, avalanche, consistency)

• Core financial systems experience: have personally led the data model, transaction design, and reconciliation design of a ledger, wallet, payment, or billing system

• Deep expertise in idempotency design, concurrency control, and consistency strategies, with trade-offs justified from production experience rather than theory

• Familiar with Docker, CI/CD, and production incident diagnosis and response; solid application security fundamentals: OAuth 2.0 / OIDC, secret management, webhook signature verification, PII handling

• Strong system design and technical documentation skills; able to independently own the server-side design of a business line

Preferred qualifications

• Hands-on experience with high-concurrency or large-data-volume systems

• Familiar with distributed systems theory and practice: consensus protocols, distributed transactions, distributed locks

• Stripe / PayPal or similar payment gateway integration experience; pgx / sqlc

• Familiar with message queues (Kafka / NATS), gRPC, Kubernetes, DDD, or performance engineering

• Team lead or mentoring experience

• Own the architecture and development of the core account and wallet systems, building high-concurrency, low-latency, horizontally scalable services in Go

• Own the data model, transaction design, and concurrency strategy of the financial core, and define system-wide idempotency and consistency standards

• Lead domain modelling and module boundary design; define API contracts and the integration standards other systems build against

• Lead the migration of financial data from existing production systems, and establish reconciliation, alerting, and discrepancy-handling processes

• Drive performance optimisation and reliability engineering on critical paths (capacity planning, rate limiting and degradation, phased rollout and rollback), build out observability (logging, metrics, distributed tracing), and drive SLO definition and post-incident review practice

• Contribute to technology selection, review all code involving monetary logic, produce technical design documentation, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers
