GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Provide basic nursing care in accordance with established standards, work collaboratively with team members, and report any incidents or issues to relevant authorities to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
JOB DESCRIPTION
ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT
Provide basic nursing care that aligns with the vision, mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the nursing services and the hospital.
Notify the nursing leaders of any situations that impact the quality of care.
Obtain unit report and assignment at the beginning of each shift and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Unit Manager or Senior Registered Nurse.
Conducts regular nursing rounds to assess patients’ needs and communicate effectively with them and their families about the patient’s condition and the care required.
Provide attentive care to infants and young children, as well as effectively managing challenging situations with them.
Prepares and tidies patients’ beds and linens as needed and organizes patients’ belongings as well as furniture.
Disinfects the beds, furniture, and equipment after utilizing them.
Keeps the ward, store, fridge and its facilities clean and tidy.
Assist the patient with filling the hot water flask if needed.
Answer phone calls and relay messages.
Attendants to patients call the bell promptly.
Assists nurses in transporting patients to and from the operating theatre.
Escorts patients to other services for diagnostic tests and from the ward to other areas upon discharge.
Dispatches specimens to the laboratory and collects results.
Collect pharmacy and surgical supplies from pharmacy and the store as required to maintain adequate stock levels for operations.
Send out portable oxygen tanks for refilling or exchange, ensuring a continuous supply for emergency needs.
Assists the trained staff in various aspects:
Carried out of nursing care, such as patient comfort, safety, nutrition, hygiene, admission, transfer, discharge, dressing, intravenous lines, catheterization, etc.
Cleans and disinfects the trolley and instruments after use and stores them properly.
Records the daily charges for the items used in the ward and updates the patients’ charges accordingly.
Maintains the record of intake and output chart for each patient.
Lifts, turns, and positions patients safely and comfortably using the correct body mechanics.
Serves meals and collects trays for the patients.
Liaise with paediatric consultants to ensure efficient bed management.
Accompanies the consultant in performing procedures and rounds in the absence of trained nurses.
Attend meetings held by the service.
HUMAN RESOURCE AND DEVELOPMENT
Proactive in our own learning and development, and to meet the minimum requirement of 20 hours of continuing education per year.
Involve orienting new staff members to the ward routines and being flexible and adaptable to any new service that is implemented.
Maintain a record of personal leave and training attendance.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURE
Adhere to the hospital's policies and nursing code of conduct, ensuring patient confidentiality and standard infection control practices are upheld.
FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
Assist the trained staff in managing the proper storage, condition, and availability of biomedical equipment in the unit, maintaining a sufficient supply of ward stock, and maintaining accurate records for equipment, medical supplies, and consumable item specimen collections.
SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES
Participate in new services, comply with 5S activities, patient safety policies, and adherence to ISO, MSQH, JCI, PSG, and NNA, ensure comply with patient safety goals, and occupational safety measures.
Participate and contribute to the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative certification, with a focus on promoting exclusive breastfeeding.
Adhere to the Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994, take reasonable care at work, cooperate with employers, wear proper PPE, and follow all safety and health instructions and measures.
