IoT & Edge Engineer (Construction Assets & Fleet) 

Role Overview 

We are looking for an IoT & Edge Engineer to build and operate connected solutions for construction assets, vehicles, heavy equipment, and field environments. The role combines embedded systems, telematics, edge computing, connectivity, IoT cloud platforms, and field deployment. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Design and deploy asset tracking solutions using LTE-M, NB-IoT, LoRaWAN, BLE, and related technologies. 
• Integrate CAN bus data using J1939, OBD-II, DBC files, PGNs, and PIDs. 
• Integrate OEM telematics APIs using ISO 15143-3/AEMP 2.0 before deploying additional hardware. 
• Select and deploy edge hardware including Raspberry Pi, industrial ARM/x86 gateways, NVIDIA Jetson, ESP32, STM32, and similar platforms. 
• Build containerised edge workloads, OTA updates, device provisioning, identity management, remote debugging, and store-and-forward capabilities. 
• Manage MQTT, SIM/eSIM, certificates, connectivity, fleet monitoring, and device health. 
• Build and maintain IoT cloud infrastructure using AWS IoT Core, Azure IoT Hub, GCP, or equivalent platforms. 
• Develop backend ingest services using Python/Node.js, PostgreSQL, and REST APIs. 
• Support pilot deployments, installation/commissioning, field troubleshooting, cost analysis, and scaling decisions. 
• Evaluate off-the-shelf versus custom hardware, including enclosure, PCB, certification, EMC, and manufacturing considerations. 

Must-Have Skills 

• 4+ years of experience in IoT, embedded systems, telematics, or edge engineering with production deployments. 
• Strong hands-on experience with CAN, J1939, OBD-II, DBC, PGN/PID decoding, and physical-layer fundamentals. 
• Production experience with Embedded Linux on ARM, Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, or industrial gateways. 
• Strong C/C++ and Python skills; experience with ESP32, STM32, Arduino, bare-metal, or RTOS environments. 
• Experience with LTE-M, NB-IoT/LTE Cat-1, antenna placement, RF considerations, and power budgeting. 
• Strong knowledge of MQTT, device identity, certificates, provisioning, OTA updates, and fleet management. 
• Experience with Docker on ARM and edge fleet platforms such as AWS IoT Greengrass, balena, or equivalent. 
• Production experience with AWS IoT Core, Azure IoT Hub, GCP, or equivalent managed IoT platforms. 
• Backend development experience with Python/Node.js, PostgreSQL, and REST APIs. 
• Understanding of hardware design, schematics, IP ratings, EMC, certification, and deployment costs. 

Nice-to-Have 

• Experience with construction sites, heavy equipment, or industrial telematics. 
• Experience with OEM telematics APIs and ISO 15143-3/AEMP 2.0. 
• Knowledge of RTK/PPK GNSS, BLE, UWB, or RFID. 
• Experience with edge AI/inference using NVIDIA Jetson, TensorRT, or ONNX Runtime. 
• FPGA/SoC-FPGA experience for real-time sensor or protocol applications. 
• Experience integrating cameras, LiDAR, GNSS/IMU, or other mobile/airborne payloads. 
• PCB bring-up, EVT/DVT, contract manufacturing, and custom hardware development experience. 
• Exposure to civil, transportation, or municipal infrastructure projects.
