What is your mission?
- Own delivery for a defined area of the Project A platform — for example, workflow orchestration, retrieval systems, connector fabric, evaluation harness, or audit and replay — in partnership with the SVP and platform architects.
- Lead a team of engineers, Setting technical direction day to day, unblocking the team, and maintaining a high bar for code quality, testing, and documentation.
- Stay hands-on: write and review production code regularly. This is not a purely managerial role — the team expects a lead who can go deep in the codebase.
- Hire and onboard engineers for your team, including coordinating with outsourced engineering pods where applicable.
- Break down platform roadmap commitments into sprint-level plans, track progress, and flag risks to the SVP early.
- Support the compliance and security engineering program within your team's scope — contributing to SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and other regulated-industry readiness work as it touches your components.
- Represent your team in customer deep-dives and technical reviews when platform-level detail is needed.
- Uphold the platform's architectural discipline of modularity and swappable components, raising concerns when execution pressure threatens that discipline.
What you bring
Hard requirements — candidates must demonstrate all of the following:
- Six or more years of production software engineering experience, including two or more years directly managing or leading engineers (formal management, tech lead, or team lead experience).
- Personally shipped production systems built on durable workflow orchestration engines at scale — Temporal, Cadence, Apache Airflow, AWS Step Functions, or equivalent — not proof-of-concept or prototype work.
- Direct production experience integrating large language models into enterprise systems: structured outputs, function calling, evaluation harnesses, model routing, applied prompt engineering at production scale. Applied ML-systems engineering, not research-track ML.
- Has owned a meaningful subsystem — retrieval, policy evaluation, orchestration, observability — ideally in a regulated industry: financial services, healthcare, aviation, government, telecommunications, or equivalent.
- Has hired, mentored, and retained a small engineering team, including performance management and career development conversations.
- Can write production code on the first day of the role. Demonstrable recent contributions to codebases, architectural documentation, or open-source projects required.
Strongly preferred — clear advantage but not strictly required:
- Production experience with voice AI systems — speech-to-text, text-to-speech, voice activity detection, turn-taking, sub-second latency budgets.
- Direct work on policy engines or fine-grained access control at enterprise scale — Open Policy Agent, Casbin, AWS Cedar, bespoke authorization systems, or equivalent.
- Experience supporting a software platform through SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 audit from an engineering leadership perspective.
- Previous Engineering Manager, Senior Manager, or Director of Engineering role at a Series A or Series B technology company, ideally with a positive outcome (acquisition, public listing, or continued institutional investment).
- Working context in APAC enterprise markets — Singapore, Jakarta, Manila, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul, or equivalent regional enterprise sales and delivery experience.
- Track record of technical writing or mentorship — internal architecture writeups, conference talks, maintained open-source projects, or similar.
