About the Role
We're looking for a Messaging Engineer to design, build, and maintain the real-time messaging infrastructure that connects factory-floor automation systems, MES, and enterprise IT platforms—enabling low-latency, reliable data streaming from shop-floor equipment to cloud/data centre applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy and manage distributed message brokers (Apache Kafka clusters or MQTT-based systems)
- Design message topics/channels and data schemas for consistent event structure (equipment status, test results, alarms)
- Optimise messaging pipelines for low latency, high reliability, and zero data loss/duplication
- Implement monitoring and alerting (throughput, lag, error rates) and troubleshoot pipeline issues
- Collaborate with developers to integrate applications with the messaging layer and tune producer/consumer performance
Must-Have Skills
- Hands-on production experience with Apache Kafka (preferred) or similar (RabbitMQ, IBM MQ, Apache Pulsar) — topic design, partitioning, replication, broker config
- Real-time pub/sub pipeline design (Kafka Connect or MQTT clients)
- Strong programming in Java/Scala or Python
- Understanding of messaging internals — clustering, retention, consumer groups, offset management
