Job Scope

To underwrite and manage Engineering Insurance business profitably through sound risk assessment, technical underwriting expertise, portfolio monitoring, and effective broker relationship management. The role is responsible for evaluating engineering and construction risks, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and risk appetite, supporting business growth, and maintaining a sustainable and profitable Engineering portfolio.

Main Responsibility

Technical Underwriting & Risk Assessment

•Underwrite Engineering risks within delegated authority.

•Assess Contractors' All Risks (CAR), Erection All Risks (EAR), Machinery Break-down (MB), Contractors' Plant & Machinery (CPM), Electronic Equipment Insurance (EEI) and related products.

•Evaluate project documentation, risk exposures, claims experience and risk engineering reports.

• Determine pricing, terms, conditions, warranties and deductibles.

•Recommend risks exceeding authority limits for referral approval.

Portfolio Management

•Monitor portfolio performance, premium growth, exposure accumulation and loss ratio.

•Review claims trends and emerging risks.

•Support portfolio optimization initiatives and renewal strategies.

•Ensure business growth aligns with underwriting profitability objectives.

Qualification and Experience Requirement

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Insurance, Risk Management or related discipline.
• Professional insurance qualifications (ACII, ANZIIF, AII, AMII or equivalent) will be an added advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years' experience in Engineering Underwriting or Construction & Engineering Insurance.
• Experience in underwriting commercial and industrial engineering risks.
• Exposure to facultative reinsurance placements and engineering risk assessment is preferred

Skills

• Strong understanding of Engineering Insurance products and underwriting princi-ples.
• Knowledge of construction processes, engineering risks and project lifecycle ex-posures.
• Strong analytical, negotiation and risk assessment capabilities.
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and underwriting systems
