Head of IT – Kuala Lumpur

Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Head of IT to lead the organisation's overall IT function and technology strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring reliable IT operations while driving digital transformation, infrastructure modernisation, cybersecurity, business applications, and technology initiatives aligned with business objectives.
This role requires a strong combination of strategic leadership, technical knowledge, people management, stakeholder management, and hands-on understanding of enterprise IT environments.
Key Responsibilities
1. IT Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute the organisation's overall IT strategy and technology roadmap.
- Align IT initiatives with business objectives and growth plans.
- Advise senior management on technology investments, risks, opportunities, and emerging technologies.
- Establish IT policies, standards, governance, and operating procedures.
- Drive continuous improvement across the IT function.
2. IT Infrastructure & Operations
- Oversee enterprise infrastructure including servers, networks, storage, virtualization, cloud, databases, endpoints, and data centres.
- Ensure high availability, reliability, performance, and scalability of IT systems.
- Oversee IT service management, incident, problem, change, and service delivery processes.
- Drive infrastructure modernisation and hybrid/cloud adoption.
- Ensure effective backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and IT resilience.
3. Cybersecurity & Risk
- Establish and maintain enterprise cybersecurity policies, controls, and standards.
- Oversee security monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, and access controls.
- Ensure IT systems comply with relevant regulatory and security requirements.
- Lead IT risk assessments, audits, remediation, and business continuity initiatives.
- Knowledge of ISO 27001, ITIL, NIST, CISSP/CISM is advantageous.
4. Digital Transformation & Applications
- Lead technology transformation, automation, cloud migration, and process improvement initiatives.
- Oversee enterprise applications such as ERP, CRM, HRMS, finance, and other business-critical systems.
- Drive integration between business applications and technology platforms.
- Evaluate new technologies and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and user experience.
5. IT Project & Program Management
- Lead major IT projects from planning through implementation.
- Manage project scope, timelines, budgets, risks, resources, and vendors.
- Establish appropriate project governance and reporting mechanisms.
- Ensure technology projects deliver measurable business value.
6. Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the IT team.
- Establish clear objectives, KPIs, performance standards, and career development plans.
- Build a high-performing and service-oriented IT organisation.
- Manage internal IT teams as well as external technology partners.
7. Vendor & Budget Management
- Manage strategic technology vendors, service providers, and outsourcing partners.
- Negotiate contracts, SLAs, pricing, and service performance.
- Prepare and manage annual IT CAPEX/OPEX budgets.
- Optimise technology spending and ensure strong ROI on IT investments.
8. Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with the CEO, senior management, department heads, and business stakeholders.
- Translate business requirements into practical technology solutions.
- Communicate IT strategy, risks, project progress, and performance to senior leadership.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- 15+ years of progressive IT experience, with significant experience in IT management/leadership.
- At least 5+ years in a Head of IT / IT Director / Senior IT Manager / IT Leadership capacity.
- Strong experience managing enterprise IT infrastructure and operations.
- Good understanding of cloud, networking, servers, databases, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, and IT service management.
- Proven experience leading digital transformation and technology projects.
- Strong experience managing IT teams, vendors, budgets, and technology partners.
- Experience with hybrid/on-premise/cloud environments.
- Strong understanding of IT governance, risk management, cybersecurity, and business continuity.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional certifications such as ITIL, PMP, CISSP, CISM, TOGAF, AWS, or Azure are an advantage.
