Job overview
Seeking a Database Administrator with a strong development background to support the operational and technical needs of the MESON/FLUX Warehouse Management System (WMS). This role sits at the intersection of database engineering and application development, requiring the ability to understand end-to-end WMS business processes, maintain and optimize a high-volume MySQL database, write complex stored procedures, and produce analytical reports for operations and management teams across Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Performance
• Manage, monitor, and maintain MySQL databases across production, staging, and test environments (AWS EKS / Huawei Cloud RDS).
• Conduct regular index audits — identify unused, redundant, and low-cardinality indexes and provide drop/consolidation recommendations.
• Perform query analysis using EXPLAIN and performance_schema to identify and resolve slow queries and full table scans.
• Implement and enforce index standards — composite index design, prefix ordering, sargability rules — across all WMS schemas.
• Monitor InnoDB buffer pool, redo log volume, and lock wait activity; tune server parameters for optimal throughput.
• Plan and execute database maintenance windows including ANALYZE TABLE, index rebuilds, and schema migrations.
• Manage MySQL upgrades and EOL compliance in alignment with AWS EKS and Huawei Cloud RDS roadmaps.
Stored Procedure Development & Optimization
• Write, review, and optimize MySQL stored procedures (SPs) supporting WMS operations including allocation, picking, packing, loading, and EDI processing.
• Identify and eliminate non-sargable predicates — UPPER(), FIND_IN_SET(), CONVERT() on columns, tuple IN subqueries — and replace with index-friendly equivalents.
• Audit and resolve deadlock-prone SPs by converting wide single-transaction DML into batched short-transaction patterns.
• Maintain SP documentation and version history across customer-specific SP libraries.
Application & WMS Process Understanding
• Understand end-to-end WMS workflows — inbound (ASN, receiving, putaway), outbound (allocation, wave, pick, pack, load, ship), inventory management, and EDI integration — to correctly scope database changes without breaking application behaviour.
• Work closely with WMS application developers to review SP logic changes, validate result set equivalence before and after optimization, and confirm predicate correctness against business rules.
• Interpret and validate stored procedure logic against customer-specific business rules.
• Participate in pre-go-live database readiness reviews for new customer onboarding and warehouse deployments.
• Support incident root cause analysis (RCA) for database-related production issues — deadlocks, storage exhaustion, SP errors — and produce structured RCA documents for client communication.
Reporting & Data Analysis
• Design and write complex analytical SQL queries joining across WMS transactional tables to produce operational reports.
• Optimize report queries for performance — eliminate correlated subqueries, replace with JOINs; push filters into derived tables; remove redundant predicates; eliminate dead OR branches.
• Build and maintain standard report templates for operations teams covering inbound throughput, outbound fulfilment, inventory accuracy, allocation success rates, and SLA compliance.
• Produce ad-hoc data extracts and analysis for customer escalations, billing disputes, and audit requests.
• Develop dashboards and scheduled reports using SQL exports integrated with BI tools or Excel where applicable.
• Ensure report queries are multi-tenant safe — all queries must filter on certain columns on every table reference to prevent cross-customer data exposure.
Database Security & Access Control
• Manage database user access in alignment with MLS-PRO-POL-002 (CS/MHS Policy) — principle of least privilege, role-based access, production access restrictions.
• Enforce SOP-DB-001 (Production Database Handling) — all production changes via approved change process, no ad-hoc direct production edits.
• Monitor and audit privileged access to production databases; escalate policy violations per defined accountability clauses.
Infrastructure & DevOps Collaboration
• Coordinate with ICS (infrastructure owner) on RDS instance sizing, storage provisioning, and backup/recovery configuration.
• Support Kubernetes upgrade planning for database-dependent services — assess schema compatibility, SP behaviour, and connection pooling impacts.
• Participate in DR/HA testing — Active-Active AZ setup, RTO/RPO validation for WMS database tier.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipeline for schema migrations using Jenkins in alignment with MLS toolchain standards.
