The CIO & CISO Office is seeking an Associate Enterprise Architect to help shape the technology, information, security, and business architecture of the company.

This is a unique opportunity to work across the entire organisation, partnering with business leaders, engineers, architects, and technology teams to understand how the business operates today and design how it should operate tomorrow.

The successful candidate will help develop and maintain the Enterprise Architecture, map business capabilities and processes, define target-state architectures, establish technology standards, and support the company's digital transformation initiatives.

Unlike traditional architecture roles, this is a hands-on position. We believe architects should be able to build, not just design. You will be expected to develop prototypes, automation, integrations, AI solutions, and internal applications that validate architectural concepts and deliver measurable business value.

We hire for curiosity, ownership, resilience, initiative, and the ability to learn quickly. Formal qualifications and years of experience are secondary to demonstrated capability and a passion for solving problems.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Architecture

• Support the development and maintenance of the organisation's Enterprise Architecture.
• Apply architecture methodologies such as TOGAF, ArchiMate, SABSA, or equivalent frameworks.
• Develop and maintain business, application, data, technology, and security architecture artefacts.
• Create capability maps, system inventories, technology standards, architectural roadmaps, and reference architectures.
• Establish current-state, transition-state, and target-state architecture views.
• Maintain architecture repositories and documentation standards.

Business Architecture & Transformation

• Work directly with business units to understand operating models, business processes, data flows, and technology requirements.
• Document and analyse business capabilities and supporting systems.
• Identify opportunities for simplification, standardisation, automation, and transformation.
• Support strategic initiatives across enterprise systems, cybersecurity, data, AI, and business operations.
• Assist in technology planning and investment decisions.

Solution Architecture & Engineering

• Design enterprise solutions, integrations, and technology patterns.
• Participate in architecture reviews for projects and technology initiatives.
• Evaluate technologies and recommend solutions aligned with business and architectural objectives.
• Support the development of standards for APIs, integrations, cloud platforms, data services, and application design.

Security Architecture & Governance

• Support the CISO Office in developing secure architecture principles and standards.
• Participate in technology risk assessments and security reviews.
• Contribute to initiatives involving identity and access management, cloud security, data protection, and AI governance.
• Ensure architectural decisions align with security, compliance, and resilience requirements.

Architecture Through Execution

At Ensign, architecture is a hands-on discipline.

Responsibilities include:

• Building proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and minimum viable products (MVPs).
• Developing small applications, automation workflows, integrations, and productivity tools.
• Writing code, scripts, and automation to solve business problems.
• Using AI platforms and modern development tools to accelerate delivery.
• Working directly with business stakeholders to transform ideas into working solutions.
• Supporting and continuously improving the solutions you build.
• Applying practical experience from implementation to improve architecture and governance decisions.

Innovation & Emerging Technologies

• Research emerging technologies and industry trends.
• Evaluate AI, automation, cloud, data, and security technologies.
• Develop prototypes to validate new ideas and architectural approaches.
• Recommend improvements that improve business outcomes, efficiency, and resilience.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 12 to 24 months, you will:

• Develop a strong understanding of Ensign's business operations and technology landscape.
• Build and maintain enterprise architecture artefacts covering business, application, data, technology, and security domains.
• Contribute to the development of target-state architecture and technology roadmaps.
• Deliver multiple automation, integration, AI, and productivity solutions into production.
• Improve operational efficiency through practical technology innovation.
• Become a trusted advisor to both technical and business stakeholders.
• Contribute meaningfully to the long-term evolution of Ensign's enterprise architecture.

• Cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Identity and Access Management.
• Data architecture and information management.
• Security architecture and cybersecurity fundamentals.

• Programming or scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, C#, or Go.
• Databases, data modelling, and analytics.
• DevOps, Git, and CI/CD practices.
