About the role

Permai Rainforest Resort is seeking a skilled and passionate Cook to join our culinary team on a full-time basis. Based in the stunning rainforest setting of Kuching, Sarawak, this role is central to delivering exceptional dining experiences to our guests. As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes to the highest standards, contributing to the resort's reputation for outstanding hospitality and cuisine.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook dishes according to established recipes and culinary standards, ensuring consistency and quality in all meals

• Maintain clean and hygienic kitchen practices, adhering to food safety regulations and the resort's strict cleanliness protocols

• Manage food preparation stations and ensure all ingredients are properly stored and rotated

• Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff and the head chef to meet service demands during busy periods

• Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure dishes are cooked to perfection

• Prepare garnishes, sauces and accompaniments to enhance the presentation and flavour of dishes

• Contribute to menu planning and suggest new dishes that reflect both local and international cuisine

• Maintain inventory of cooking supplies and report shortages to management

• Assist with food cost control and minimising wastage in the kitchen

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Cook in a hotel, resort or high-volume food service environment

• Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques and cooking methods across various cuisines

• Excellent understanding of food safety, hygiene standards and kitchen sanitation practices

• Ability to work efficiently under pressure whilst maintaining high quality standards

• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills

• Positive attitude and the ability to work well as part of a team

• Physical fitness and ability to stand for extended periods in a hot kitchen environment

• Culinary qualifications or formal training in cooking (preferred)

• Experience with local Malaysian or international cuisine (advantageous)

• Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays
