Senior Test Engineer / Senior QA Engineer (Banking)

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Employment Type: Contract (Renewable)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Test Engineer / Senior QA Engineer to join our Banking Technology team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manual and/or automation testing, with hands-on experience testing enterprise banking applications, digital banking platforms, and financial systems.

You will work closely with Business Analysts, Developers, Product Owners, and Project Managers to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions while maintaining compliance with banking standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive test strategies, test plans, and test cases based on business and functional requirements.
• Perform Functional, System Integration (SIT), Regression, End-to-End (E2E), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and Smoke Testing.
• Execute manual and automated test cases and ensure complete test coverage.
• Identify, document, prioritize, and track software defects through to resolution.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts and Development teams to clarify requirements and validate solutions.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and release activities.
• Perform API testing, database validation, and backend testing.
• Prepare test execution reports, defect metrics, and quality status updates.
• Support production releases and post-deployment validation.
• Ensure software quality aligns with banking compliance, security, and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, automation frameworks, and testing standards.
• Mentor junior QA engineers and promote testing best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5+ years of Software Testing experience, including 3+ years within the Banking or Financial Services industry.
• Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC).
• Hands-on experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working in enterprise-scale banking application environments.

• Experience with API, Microservices, and Cloud-based applications.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Exposure to performance and security testing is an advantage.
• Experience working on regulatory or compliance-driven banking projects.

Preferred Certifications

• ISTQB Certified Tester (Foundation or Advanced Level)
• Certified Agile Tester
• Scrum Certification
• Any Automation Testing Certification
