Responsibilities & Duties
Site Preparation & Cleanup:
Cleaning hazards, setting up scaffolding, bracing, and erecting temporary structures.
Material Handling:
Loading/unloading, transporting, and distributing building materials (e.g., bricks, concrete) using wheelbarrows or heavy machinery.
Labour Assistance:
Mixing concrete, digging trenches, backfilling holes, and assisting carpenters or plumbers.
Tool/Machine Operation:
Operating tools like jackhammers, drills, and grinders; operating heavy equipment like forklifts or skid loaders.
Safety Compliance:
Following OSHA guidelines, reporting incidents, and ensuring a safe, clean site. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
Job Requirements & Skills
Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand, walk, and perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions, often for long hours.
Experience & Knowledge:
Typically requires 1+ years of experience in construction or related fields, with knowledge of, or willingness to learn, safety protocols.
Tool Proficiency:
Familiarity with basic hand and power tools.
Education & Certification:
A high school diploma or GED is often preferred, along with specialized safety certifications (like a Construction Skills Certification Scheme card).
Soft Skills:
Reliability, punctuality, strong work ethic, and ability to work in a team setting.
Licensing:
