A Stewarding Assistant (often referred to as a Kitchen Steward or Dishwasher) is a vital back-of-house role focused on
maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and organization in food preparation areas, kitchen facilities, and equipment
They ensure that chefs and service staff have clean, functional tools to operate effectively.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Dishwashing and Sanitation: Manually wash or operate dishwashing machines to clean, sanitize, and dry all cutlery, crockery, plates, bowls, and cookware.
- Cleaning Kitchen Areas: Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, food preparation areas, floors, walls, and storage areas to meet health and safety standards.
- Garbage Disposal: Perform regular removal of waste from the kitchen and handle garbage disposal and recycling processes.
- Equipment Maintenance: Handle delicate kitchen equipment with care to prevent breakage and report any malfunctioning machinery (like dishwashing machines) to superiors.
- Support & Organization: Assist in organizing and stocking clean dishes, utensils, and cookware, ensuring a smooth workflow during service.
