About the Role

Impact Lives by Bringing Energy Access to Communities That Need It the Most

This role puts you in charge of real off-grid energy projects in Malaysia: designing, installing, and equipping communities to operate and maintain systems that communities will depend on for decades.

This is not a typical solar industry job. The core technical skills carry over directly from residential and C&I solar, be it sizing, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting. But you will be operating in an off-grid setting, where there's no utility to lean on and no crew on standby. You must really want to do this work because it will take you off-grid, into the field, and into communities where energy access is crucial for equitable development.

What You’ll Do

• Manages and supervises the onsite installation, testing, and commissioning of solar power systems to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality implementation.
• Post installation, lead the troubleshooting, and maintenance of off-grid energy systems in participation with the local communities
• Assist in designing, testing, and optimizing renewable energy systems.
• Conduct site visits to assess energy needs and infrastructure suitability.
• Analyse system performance data to enhance reliability and efficiency.
• Engage with local communities to communicate ongoing implementation plans, to seek their acceptance, to iterate, adjust based on on the ground realities.
• Provide training and technical support for local communities ensuring long-term sustainability.

What We’re Looking For

• Hands-on experience you can point to: you've personally sized, installed, and commissioned small-scale solar systems in a real world environment. Grid-tied rooftop work (residential or C&I) counts and transfers well. What we're *not* after is a purely large-scale/utility (LSS) or design-desk background with no field install work.
• Someone who wants to specialise in off-grid energy solutions and is motivated to contribute directly to rural electrification in Malaysia
• Experience in a rural setting is a strong plus.
• A bonus: direct off-grid, microgrid, or hybrid solar-plus-battery experience.
• Comfortable with fieldwork in rural areas and hands-on problem-solving.
• Able to think on your feet to deal with the unexpected and an ability to adapt to real-world challenges.
• Strong inter-personal skills to foster genuine connections with communities we work with
• Excellent communications skills with stakeholders, from technical partners to rural communities in both English and Bahasa Malaysia
• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
