We are seeking a Chartering Manager to join a growing shipping and commercial team within a global energy group. The role will focus on tanker chartering, vessel employment, freight market analysis and developing commercial opportunities across regional and international markets.
Responsibilities:
- Manage spot chartering and vessel employment across crude and clean tanker segments, including MR/LR, Aframax, Suezmax and VLCC.
- Develop vessel employment strategies across spot, COA and time-charter opportunities to optimize utilization and voyage returns.
- Negotiate freight, hire, charterparty, laytime and demurrage terms and execute fixtures independently.
- Evaluate voyage economics, TCE performance, vessel positioning and cargo allocation to maximize commercial returns.
- Monitor tanker freight markets, trade flows, refinery activity, supply-demand dynamics and relevant market developments.
- Identify arbitrage, triangulation and backhaul opportunities to improve voyage profitability and reduce ballast exposure.
- Develop and maintain relationships with shipowners, brokers, oil majors, commodity traders and other industry stakeholders.
- Support business development initiatives, freight budgeting, forecasting and commercial strategy.
- Assess counterparty, sanctions and regulatory risks while ensuring compliance with internal policies and industry requirements.
- Work closely with Trading, Operations, Finance and Legal teams and support junior team members where applicable.
Requirements:
- Degree in Shipping, Maritime Studies, Business, Finance or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant tanker chartering experience, with exposure to CPP and/or crude tanker markets.
- Strong understanding of charterparty terms, voyage economics, laytime, demurrage and freight settlement.
- Proven experience in tanker P&L management, freight market analysis and commercial decision-making.
- Established network across shipowners, brokers, oil majors, commodity traders and/or NOCs.
- Experience with Veson IMOS is advantageous.
- Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercially driven with strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Able to manage multiple fixtures and priorities in a fast-paced trading environment.
