Position Summary

The Manager / Senior Manager will support the growth and development of SOS Academy by designing, delivering and enhancing professional and community training in suicide prevention, crisis intervention and postvention.

The role will help strengthen SOS Academy’s training quality, sector relevance and outreach by developing evidence-informed programmes, engaging partners and stakeholders, and identifying opportunities that expand the Academy’s reach and impact.

The ideal candidate is a strong facilitator and curriculum developer with experience in mental health, crisis intervention and/or suicide prevention, and is comfortable working across training delivery, programme development, partnerships and business growth.

Training Delivery, Learning Development and Learner Support

  • Deliver engaging hybrid training tailored to diverse learners using case studies, role-play, discussions and other applied learning methods.
  • Design, develop and enhance evidence-informed training programmes and materials in suicide prevention, crisis response and mental health.
  • Develop learner-centred content and collaborate with subject matter experts and trainers to ensure training quality, relevance and consistency.
  • Conduct written and practical assessments for funded courses in accordance with relevant requirements.
  • Monitor learner progress, provide constructive feedback and provide appropriate learner support to enhance learning outcomes

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, partners and networks to strengthen SOSA's programmes, training initiatives, sector engagement and organisational impact.
  • Represent SOSA at relevant conferences, forums and community events to enhance its profile, networks and sector presence.

Programme Support & Fundraising Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Advancement and Partnerships Team to develop evidence-informed programmes aligned with SOSA’s strategic priorities, funders’ priorities and operational capabilities.
  • Plan and oversee programme implementation activities to ensure readiness for delivery, effective execution and achievement of intended outcomes.

Business Development

  • Contribute subject matter expertise to partnership proposals, funding applications and programme pitches.
  • Identify emerging training and workforce capability needs, service gaps and collaboration opportunities through engagement with learners, partners and sector stakeholders, and work closely with the Business Development function to translate these insights into partnership, training and funding opportunities.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure all training content meets ethical guidelines and accreditation requirements.
  • Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness through feedback, assessments, and post-training evaluations. 

Education Qualification

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counselling, education, or a related discipline.
  • Candidates with ACLP and/or DDDLP will be an added advantage.
  • Candidates without ACLP and/or DDDLP are expected to pursue and attain the relevant certification within the first year of employment.

Relevant Experience

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in adult education and training, preferably with clinical practice experience in the mental health or social services sector, including supervisory or leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge and applied understanding of suicide prevention, crisis intervention and relevant mental health frameworks, with the ability to translate these into effective training and learning programmes

Key Attributes & Competencies

  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and e-learning methodologies, with the ability to apply them in developing effective, learner-centred training.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, facilitation and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health advocacy and suicide prevention.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and collaborate effectively across teams and stakeholders.
