About Aprisium:
Aprisium is a deep-tech company developing innovative water quality monitoring and contamination detection solutions through advanced sensing, IoT, data analytics, and AI technologies. We are looking for a hands-on Team Lead, Engineering to lead engineering activities across product design, development, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing.
Position Overview:
The Team Lead, Engineering will lead and coordinate engineering activities from concept and design through development, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing. The role requires a strong combination of engineering design and development expertise, hands-on prototyping and manufacturing knowledge, and an understanding of software and coding concepts.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Engineering and cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into practical, manufacturable, and scalable engineering solutions. This role will also provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering team members.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering Design & Product Development
Diploma, Bachelor's degree, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Instrumentation, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
5+ years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in product development, instrumentation, IoT devices, analytical equipment, industrial equipment, or related technology environments.
Proven experience in engineering design, product development, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, assembly, components, materials, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
Experience taking products from concept → design → prototype → validation → manufacturing.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, technical specifications, and BOMs.
Working knowledge of engineering design and prototyping tools.
Good understanding of coding/software concepts and the ability to collaborate effectively with software, firmware, and IoT engineers.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Experience leading or mentoring engineering team members is highly desirable.
Strong communication, project management, and stakeholder management skills.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced deep-tech/startup environment and taking a hands-on approach to engineering challenges.
Preferred Experience
Experience with IoT-enabled devices, sensors, instrumentation, analytical instruments, or water/environmental monitoring systems.
Experience with embedded systems, electronics, microcontrollers, or sensor integration.
Experience working with contract manufacturers and external suppliers.
Experience with DFM/DFA, product reliability, and production scaling.
Basic understanding of firmware, APIs, cloud connectivity, or data acquisition systems.
Experience working in a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering Design & Product Development
- Lead the design and development of Aprisium's analyser, sensor, and related hardware systems.
- Translate product requirements and technical specifications into engineering designs and solutions.
- Develop mechanical, electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and system-level designs as required.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, and technical documentation.
- Ensure designs meet requirements for functionality, reliability, safety, quality, cost, and manufacturability.
- Lead rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept development for new products and engineering solutions.
- Plan and execute prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and design validation.
- Identify design issues and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Work closely with engineering and laboratory teams to validate performance and improve product reliability.
- Support continuous improvement throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Develop designs with manufacturing, assembly, servicing, and scalability in mind.
- Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners on production requirements, tooling, components, and assembly processes.
- Support the transition of products from prototype to production.
- Establish and improve manufacturing and assembly processes, work instructions, and quality controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
- Support troubleshooting of manufacturing and field issues.
- Lead and mentor engineers and technical team members.
- Assign and monitor engineering tasks, priorities, and project deliverables.
- Review technical work and provide guidance on engineering decisions.
- Collaborate with the Head of Engineering on technical strategy, resource planning, and product development priorities.
- Promote engineering best practices, documentation, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Understand fundamental software development and coding concepts, including programming logic, APIs, data structures, debugging, and system integration.
- Work effectively with software, firmware, IoT, and AI/analytics engineers.
- Understand how hardware, sensors, embedded systems, software, and cloud platforms interact within an integrated product.
- Support technical troubleshooting involving hardware-software interfaces.
- Translate engineering requirements into clear technical requirements for software and firmware teams.
- Work closely with R&D, Chemistry, Deployment, Operations, Supply Chain, and Customer Success teams.
- Support product deployment and field engineering activities when required.
- Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and external engineering partners.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, test results, engineering documentation, and project updates.
- Ensure engineering projects are delivered within agreed timelines, specifications, and budgets.
