JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a qualified and competent Electrical Chargeman (B4) to support the safe operation, maintenance, supervision and reliability of electrical installations within an oil & gas / petrochemical plant environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation and control of electrical installations within the scope of Chargeman B4 competency, including HV switchgear, transformers, motors, HV generators and generator synchronisation with grid operation. The role also involves preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance, troubleshooting, electrical isolation and switching, safety compliance, contractor supervision and coordination with engineers and plant operators.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate, control, inspect and maintain electrical installations safely in accordance with the scope of competency under the Chargeman B4 Certificate of Competency (CoC).
- Perform preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
- Carry out inspection, testing, troubleshooting and rectification of electrical faults to minimize downtime and ensure continuous plant operation.
- Perform electrical isolation, switching and restoration activities in accordance with approved procedures and within the scope of competency.
- Operate, monitor and maintain electrical equipment and systems, including:
- HV Switchgear
- LV Switchgear
- MCCB
- ACB
- Transformers
- Motors
- HV Generators
- Electrical Distribution Networks
- Operate and monitor HV generator systems and synchronisation to grid operation in accordance with approved operating procedures.
- Monitor generator and electrical system parameters to ensure stable, safe and reliable operation.
- Identify abnormalities, electrical faults and potential equipment failures and take appropriate corrective action.
- Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns, faults and emergency situations to minimize downtime.
- Conduct routine electrical inspections and ensure all equipment remains in safe and efficient operating condition.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, switching operations, equipment status, generator performance and electrical faults.
- Prepare and maintain relevant electrical maintenance reports, records and documentation.
- Supervise electrical technicians, contractors and other personnel involved in electrical works.
- Control or participate in Permit to Work (PTW) and Electrical Isolation Certificate (EIC) processes, where applicable.
- Ensure electrical isolation, switching, maintenance and testing activities are performed safely and in accordance with approved procedures.
- Ensure all electrical activities comply with statutory regulations, applicable industry standards and site requirements.
- Identify electrical hazards and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
- Apply electrical safety practices, emergency response procedures and basic first-aid practices.
- Coordinate with engineers, operators, maintenance teams and other disciplines to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
- Support electrical reliability, energy efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Utilize SAP ECC6 Plant Maintenance (PM) module for relevant maintenance activities, work orders, equipment records and maintenance documentation.
- Perform other electrical-related duties as assigned by the supervisor or management.
REQUIREMENTS
- Possess a valid Chargeman B4 Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST).
- Registered as a Competent Person under the applicable requirements of the Electricity Regulations 1994.
- Conversant with the safe operation and control of electrical installations within the scope of B4 competency.
- Good knowledge and practical understanding of HV and LV electrical systems.
- Good understanding of electrical equipment and systems including:
- HV Switchgear
- LV Switchgear
- MCCB
- ACB
- Transformers
- Motors
- HV Generators
- Electrical Distribution Systems
- Practical knowledge of HV generator operation and synchronisation to grid operation.
- Competent in:

- Good understanding of electrical safety practices, emergency response and safe working procedures.
- Basic first-aid knowledge is an advantage.

- Good teamwork and site coordination skills.
- High level of safety awareness, particularly within an oil & gas / petrochemical / plant environment.
- Efficient in report writing and computer applications.
- Familiar with SAP ECC6 Plant Maintenance (PM) Module.
- Physically fit and willing to work in a plant/site environment.
- Willing to work shifts, overtime, standby or during shutdown/turnaround activities when required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience in the related industry, or as required by the Company.
- Possess a Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, or related Engineering discipline, or equivalent qualification.
- Valid Chargeman B4 Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) is mandatory.
- Registered as a Competent Person under the applicable requirements of the Electricity Regulations 1994.
- Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, power generation, utilities or industrial plant maintenance is highly preferred.
- Experience in HV generator operation and synchronisation with grid systems will be highly advantageous.
- Experience in plant maintenance and/or shutdown/turnaround activities is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with SAP ECC6 Plant Maintenance Module is preferred.
- Good computer skills and report-writing capability.

Pay: RM11,000.00 - RM14,000.00 per month
