Role Description The Sr Data Engineer will work on-site in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, under a contract arrangement. This role is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust data pipelines and data warehousing solutions that support analytics, reporting, and application needs across global projects. Day-to-day activities include collaborating with software engineers, data analysts, and stakeholders to define data requirements, optimize data models, and ensure data quality, integrity, and performance. The Sr Data Engineer will implement best practices for data governance, security, and scalability, and contribute to architectural decisions for cloud and on-premises data platforms. The role also involves troubleshooting complex data issues, improving existing data workflows, and mentoring team members to uplift engineering standards.
Qualifications

• Strong skills in data engineering, including designing and implementing ETL/ELT pipelines, data warehousing, and data modeling.
• Proficiency with modern data technologies such as SQL, relational and NoSQL databases, and at least one major cloud data platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Experience with big data frameworks and tools (e.g., Spark, Hadoop, Kafka) to build scalable, high-performance data solutions.
• Solid programming abilities in languages commonly used for data engineering, such as Python, Java, or Scala.
• Knowledge of data governance, data security, and best practices for handling sensitive and large-scale data sets.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, translate business requirements into technical designs, and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Background in designing solutions for complex, distributed systems supporting international or multi-region operations is an advantage.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications are beneficial.
• Prior experience in a senior or lead data engineering role, preferably within software development or digital transformation environments.
