Our client is test laboratory specializing in fast, reliable and accurate testing of metal. They offer a comprehensive selection of tests and inspection services including mechanical tests, chemical and metallographic analysis, corrosion tests, non-destructive tests, welding consultancy & welding inspection, failure analysis, etc.

Our client is seeking for Senior Engineer (Materials Testing) with strong expertise in metallurgy, metals or materials engineering to join their Testing Department. The role has a strong focus on metallurgical testing, with broader exposure to chemical and mechanical testing, supporting customers from diverse engineering industries and handling a variety of materials and technical challenges. Youwill work closely with the Technical Manager, provide technical expertise and leadership, support and guide engineers and technicians, and contribute to the development of testing capabilities and continuous improvement of laboratory operations.

JOB DIMENSION (SCOPE)

• Provide technical expertise and guidance in materials testing, particularly metals and metallurgy, including interpretation of test results and applicable standards.
• Support the Technical Manager in coordinating testing activities, work priorities and resources to ensure quality, efficiency and timely completion.
• Guide and support engineers and technicians in testing activities, technical problem-solving and interpretation of testing requirements.
• Review test data, technical findings and reports to ensure accuracy, traceability and compliance with applicable standards, customer requirements and laboratory procedures.
• Lead and support investigations into non-conforming work, testing deviations, abnormal results, customer complaints and other technical issues.
• Develop team capabilities through technical coaching, knowledge sharing, cross-training and competency development of engineers and technicians.
• Support technical discussions with customers, including clarification of testing requirements, technical findings and resolution of technical matters.
• Lead and support the development and improvement of testing methods, laboratory capabilities, work processes and operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, laboratory quality systems, equipment calibration and verification requirements, workplace safety and applicable standards.
• Work closely with the Technical Manager, QA, Customer Service, Sales and other laboratory sections to support department and business objectives.
• Perform other related technical and operational duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with relevant materials/metallurgy experience, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Strong technical knowledge and practical experience in metals, metallurgy, material properties and material behaviour.
• Proven experience in leading, guiding or coordinating engineers and/or technicians, with the ability to provide technical guidance and support team development.
• Strong technical judgement and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and quickly pick up new testing methods, standards and technical requirements.
• Knowledge of relevant material and testing standards such as ASTM, ISO, BS and ASME; experience in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory will be an advantage.
• Hands-on experience in metallurgical examination, materials testing or failure investigation will be an advantage.
• Proactive and responsible, with good leadership, planning, communication and interpersonal skills.
