Key Responsibilities

Process Development & Optimization

• Design, develop, and optimize polishing processes (mechanical, chemical, and electropolishing) and anodizing processes (Type II, Type III, and specialty finishes).
• Define and control critical process parameters, including:
• Polishing: abrasive type/grit, wheel speed, pressure, compound selection, cycle time.
• Anodizing: electrolyte concentration, temperature, voltage/current density, treatment time, sealing method.
• Conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis to establish robust process windows.
• Validate new materials, chemicals, and equipment for production readiness.

Documentation & Standards

• Independently create and maintain SOPs, Work Instructions, and Process Control Plans.
• Develop and maintain FMEAs (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and control plans for surface treatment processes.
• Ensure processes comply with industry and customer standards (e.g., MIL-A-8625F, ASTM, ISO, customer-specific specifications).
• Establish inspection criteria for color, gloss, texture, coating thickness, and adhesion.

Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement

• Analyze and resolve production issues such as uneven oxidation, black spots, poor adhesion, color variation, burn marks, and surface waviness.
• Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Drive yield improvement, defect reduction (NCMR metrics), and cost optimization.
• Monitor process capability (Cp/Cpk) and implement SPC where applicable.

Fixture & Tooling Design

• Design and develop jigs, racks, and fixtures for polishing and anodizing lines to improve efficiency, consistency, and part contact.
• Collaborate with tooling and automation teams to improve process repeatability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with R&D, Industrial Design, Production, Quality, and Suppliers to transfer new finishes from prototype to mass production.
• Provide technical support to production teams and train technicians on new processes and equipment.
• Evaluate supplier capabilities and drive on-site implementation of surface treatment processes at supplier locations.

Equipment & Safety

• Specify and qualify new surface treatment equipment (polishing lines, anodizing tanks, rectifiers, filtration systems).
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations related to chemicals and wastewater treatment.
