Position Overview
We are seeking a Network Support Engineer to provide foundational technical infrastructure and network support for the Azure Core Networking team within secure Government Cloud environments.
This role provides Tier 1 network operations support for critical infrastructure including ExpressRoute, VPN, and core network services. The position operates in a 24x7 shift-based environment and works closely with senior network engineering and support teams.
Key Responsibilities
Network Operations
- Monitor network capacity alerts and maintain ExpressRoute Direct port capacity.
- Perform network port provisioning and prepare Network Design Templates (NDT) for buildout activities.
- Create seed files and execute post-build service configuration deployments.
- Validate network configuration settings before production deployment.
- Support network infrastructure decommissioning activities.
- Monitor, triage, and escalate Livesite, customer-reported, and deployment incidents.
- Follow established operational procedures for network configuration and service deployment.
Documentation & Knowledge Management
- Update knowledge bases with troubleshooting procedures and lessons learned.
- Contribute to network automation initiatives such as PNAAS.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures for Tier 1 activities.
- Maintain accurate records of configuration changes, incidents, and deployment activities.
- Ensure operational documentation remains current and complete.
Partner & Team Collaboration
- Coordinate with Microsoft network partners and service providers, including AT&T, BT, Verizon, and Equinix, for capacity onboarding activities.
- Work with Tier 1.5 and Tier 2 support teams during incident escalation.
- Provide complete incident information and troubleshooting details during escalations.
- Follow established communication and escalation procedures.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in network operations, technical support, NOC, or IT infrastructure support.
- Basic understanding of networking fundamentals, including:TCP/IPRoutingSwitchingDNSVPN fundamentals
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure networking services is preferred.
- Experience with ticketing systems and incident management processes.
- Basic network troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a 24x7 operational environment.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a production support environment.
- Customer-focused approach with good escalation and communication skills.
