Software Development Engineer

Focus: Hardware Validation / R&D Lab Software & Test Automation

Job Summary

The Lasers Singapore Hardware R&D Lab is seeking a Software Development Engineer to provide end-to-end software and IT infrastructure support for hardware validation and test environments. The role will be responsible for maintaining stable system operations, developing and enhancing test tools, supporting software applications, managing SQL databases, and implementing automation solutions for laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance software applications supporting product qualification, hardware validation, and R&D laboratory operations.
• Develop and maintain custom test applications, databases, reporting systems, and web-based tools.
• Drive end-to-end integration across applications, databases, backend services, and user interfaces.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to system integration, data flow, logging, test execution, and software reliability.
• Collaborate with Hardware R&D Engineers to understand testing requirements and translate them into software solutions.
• Develop and maintain test automation frameworks and performance test automation solutions to improve test efficiency and coverage.
• Maintain and enhance existing test tools, databases, and supporting infrastructure.
• Partner with Network Support Engineers to improve data transfer performance between workstations and centralized servers.
• Support application-level cybersecurity requirements and secure data transfer across Singapore and other global company sites.
• Manage and optimize SQL databases supporting laboratory operations and test data storage.
• Design and maintain database schemas, tables, stored procedures, and SQL queries.
• Improve database performance, reliability, scalability, data integrity, availability, and traceability.
• Support equipment tracking, test sample tracking, accessories and consumables tracking for IP security and control.
• Support data processing, storage, visualization, and reporting across remote test workstations and centralized servers.
• Identify opportunities for automation and implement solutions that improve productivity and operational efficiency.
• Provide ongoing support for mission-critical laboratory systems and ensure service continuity.
• Work independently while coordinating with geographically distributed engineering and support teams.
• Participate in knowledge transfer from the US team and progressively assume ownership of supported systems, tools, and infrastructure.

Experience

• 5–7+ years of experience in software development, system support, application support, or a related engineering environment.
• Strong programming background with C, Python, C#, VB 6.0, ASP.NET, MS SQL Server, Microsoft Access, IIS, and Visual Studio.
• Experience supporting software applications used in hardware validation, testing, engineering, laboratory, or manufacturing environments is highly relevant.
• Experience with test automation, database management, system integration, troubleshooting, and reporting applications is preferred.
