Job Summary:
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design, installation, testing, and commissioning of all electrical systems for the 100MWac solar farm. This includes managing the Balance of System (BoS), Medium Voltage (MV) systems, and the High Voltage (HV) interconnection facility to ensure seamless integration with the SEB grid.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Execution and Management
- Supervise the installation of PV modules, string inverters, transformers, MV power stations (MVPS), cabling, accessories and M&E services.
- Coordinate with the Civil and Structural teams to ensure electrical infrastructure (cable trenches, MVPS plinths) is compatible with Tanjung Manis’s unique soil conditions.
- Manage EPCs and consultants to ensure the project remains on schedule and within budget.
- Maintain comprehensive site diaries, RFI (Request for Inspection) logs, and as-built drawings.
- Assist the Project Manager in monitoring project budget, evaluating progress claims, and assessing variation orders.
Engineering and Design Review
- Ensure the construction and installation strictly follow approved engineering plans which include Single Line Diagrams (SLD), cable sizing, earthing systems, and lightning protection.
- Validate energy yield simulations using PVSyst or similar software to ensure project performance ratios (PR) are met.
- Ensure the design of the Interconnection Facility (IF) complies with the Sarawak Grid Code and SEB Technical Standards.
Testing & Commissioning (T&C)
- Lead the Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning activities, including insulation tests, polarity checks, and VLF (Very Low Frequency) testing for MV cables.
- Oversee the Performance Ratio (PR) Test and Reliability Run to ensure the plant hits its 100MWac contractual capacity.
- Coordinate with SEB for the Initial Operation Date (IOD) and Commercial Operation Date (COD).
Regulatory Compliance & Safety
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for SEB.
- Ensure all works comply with IEC, IEEE, and Malaysian Standards (MS).
- Implement and enforce strict Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols on-site, particularly regarding high-voltage safety.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related).
- Certifications: Grid-Connected Photovoltaic (GCPV) System Designer/Installer is an added advantage.
- Minimum 3–5 years of project management experience, preferably in renewable energy, power, or infrastructure.
- Proven track record in delivering large-scale solar (LSS) or power projects in Sarawak.
- Strong knowledge of Electrical Inspectorate Unit (EIU) regulations and local authority approval processes.
- Strong knowledge of renewable energy projects (solar/LSS) including EPC lifecycle, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
- Familiarity with EIU requirements, Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) procedures, and local authority regulations.
- Ability to liaise effectively with contractors, consultants, and regulators.
- Problem-solving and risk management capabilities, especially in mitigating project delays.
- Good understanding of HSE standards and ability to enforce compliance on site.
- Based at project site in Tanjung Manis, Sarawak, with regular travel to local authority/SEB offices as required.
- Must be willing to work in remote site conditions with limited amenities.
- Exposure to construction site environment, including weather, noise, and physical site inspections.
- Extended or irregular working hours may be required to meet project deadlines.
- Collaborative environment, working closely with multidisciplinary teams (civil, electrical, procurement, HSE).
- High-pressure environment requiring ability to manage tight schedules, cost constraints, and compliance demands.
- Ability to lead and motivate site teams and subcontractors while working independently under pressure.
