Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced SAP ABAP Developer to join our Software Engineering team on a large-scale SAP Finance Modernization project (MFRS18 Reporting) for a global energy and integrated operations organization. As a Packaged/SaaS Application Engineer specializing in ABAP development, you will design, build, and optimize custom SAP developments that support enterprise-wide financial reporting transformation, while acting as a technical subject matter expert and mentor within the delivery team.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Development & Configuration

• Design, develop, and maintain custom ABAP programs, reports, interfaces, enhancements, and forms to support SAP Finance modules and MFRS18 reporting requirements.
• Configure and optimize packaged/SaaS applications using standard tools, APIs, and low-code platforms to align technical solutions with evolving business needs.
• Develop and maintain custom developments including BAPIs, BADIs, user exits, enhancement spots, and RFC-enabled function modules.
• Perform code reviews, performance tuning, and optimization to ensure system stability, scalability, and reliability.

Solution Ownership & Delivery

• Take ownership of specific technical workstreams within the project, ensuring high-quality, on-time delivery.
• Analyze complex technical issues and develop innovative solutions that enhance application stability and user experience.
• Support integration between SAP Finance modules and other SAP/non-SAP systems through custom interface development.
• Prepare and maintain technical specifications, development documentation, and unit test scripts.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

• Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for SAP ABAP development, providing technical guidance and best practices to the wider team.
• Mentor and support junior developers, sharing knowledge to strengthen overall team capability.
• Collaborate proactively with functional consultants (FI/CO, MDG), technical architects, and cross-functional teams to influence solution design.
• Take responsibility for team-level technical decisions and contribute to key design and architecture discussions.

Testing, Deployment & Support

• Support release management, transport coordination, and deployment activities across development, testing, and production environments.
• Conduct unit testing, support SIT/UAT cycles, and assist in defect resolution.
• Analyze system performance and troubleshoot production issues to maintain high availability and reliability.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to optimize code, processes, and development tools.

Required Skills & Experience

Mandatory

• Advanced hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development (minimum 5-8 years).
• Strong expertise in RICEFW objects: Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms (SmartForms/Adobe Forms), and Workflow.
• Experience with BAPIs, BADIs, user exits, enhancement frameworks, and RFC function modules.
• Solid understanding of SAP Finance (FI/CO) data structures and integration points.
• Experience working in SAP S/4HANA development environments.
• Strong debugging, performance tuning, and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience supporting enterprise SAP environments in a production support or full-cycle project delivery capacity.

Preferred Technical Skills

• Exposure to SAP Fiori/UI5 development.
• Experience with OData services and API-based integrations.
• Familiarity with SAP ABAP on HANA (CDS Views, AMDP).
• Knowledge of SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) technical framework.
• Understanding of financial reporting transformation projects (e.g., MFRS/IFRS standards) is a plus.
