Job Summary
Sempurna Farms Sdn. Bhd. is a Malaysian urban vertical farming company established to promote sustainable farming practices and provide pesticide-free produce that tastes just like it should.
We are seeking motivated, hands-on and detail-oriented Agronomy Interns to support the day-to-day operations of our controlled-environment agriculture (“CEA”) farm in Bangsar Utama, Kuala Lumpur.
The internship will provide practical exposure to crop production planning, germination, transplanting, plant growth monitoring, nutrient preparation, harvesting, packing, delivery coordination, hygiene control, inventory tracking and general farm operations.
This internship is suitable for undergraduate students pursuing studies in modern agriculture, urban farming, horticulture, plant science, agrotechnology, agronomy, crop science or sustainable farming, particularly those seeking practical industry experience in controlled-environment agriculture, vertical farming, greenhouse operations, hydroponics, nursery operations or other controlled crop production environments.
Training, supervision and guidance will be provided throughout the internship.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with day-to-day CEA and vertical farm operations, including germination, transplanting, growing, harvesting, packing and cleaning
Support the preparation and implementation of crop production and sowing schedules
Prepare seeds, growing media, trays, nutrients and other materials required for crop production
Assist in monitoring plant growth, crop health, moisture levels, temperature, humidity, lighting, airflow and other farm conditions
Assist in preparing nutrient solutions according to crop requirements and established standard operating procedures
Carry out routine checks for signs of pests, disease, contamination, nutrient imbalance or abnormal plant growth
Record observations and promptly report crop issues or unusual conditions to the assigned supervisor
Ensure farm areas, equipment, tools, trays and growing modules are kept clean, organised and compliant with hygiene requirements
Assist with harvesting, weighing, sorting, packaging, labelling and storage of produce
Support traceability and record-keeping for sowing, germination, transplanting, harvesting, packing, delivery and crop performance
Assist in preparing weekly customer orders and produce for delivery or collection
Support inventory tracking for seeds, nutrients, packaging materials, cleaning materials and other farm consumables
Assist with basic visual and operational checks of farm equipment, lighting, irrigation systems, pumps, RO water supply, sensors and related systems
Follow established SOPs for food safety, hygiene, crop handling, equipment cleaning and farm operations
Highlight crop issues, equipment faults, shortages, contamination risks, delays or other operational concerns to the assigned supervisor
Assist in preparing simple crop records, harvest summaries, inventory updates and operational trackers
Support farm visits, customer visits, product sampling, pop-ups, marketing activities and other farm-related events when required
Work with the founders, farm team, technology partner, agronomists and suppliers while carrying out assigned tasks
Participate in training, operational briefings and performance discussions throughout the internship
Perform other farm operations or administrative tasks assigned by the supervisor
About You
To be suitable for this internship, you should possess:
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Agrotechnology, Crop Science, Agronomy, Plant Science, Plant Biotechnology or a related field
Preferably in the second-last or final year of study
Strong interest in sustainable farming, urban farming, food security, plant production and modern agricultural technology
Basic understanding of plant growth, crop cycles, plant nutrients, pest and disease prevention, hygiene or post-harvest handling
Interest in gaining practical exposure to CEA, vertical farming, greenhouse operations, hydroponics or other controlled crop production systems
Willingness to perform hands-on farm work, including sowing, cleaning, harvesting, packing and routine operational checks
Detail-oriented, disciplined and able to follow instructions and SOPs consistently
Good organisational, communication and follow-up skills
Comfortable working in a controlled-environment farm and maintaining strict hygiene standards
Able to work independently on assigned tasks while coordinating with a small team
Proactive, responsible, willing to learn and open to feedback
Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Google Sheets or similar tools
Willing to work on-site at the farm in Bangsar Utama, Kuala Lumpur
Willing to support occasional deliveries, farm visits, customer activities, pop-ups or weekend requirements when necessary
