Software Engineer – Client Trading Infrastructure (Java)

EC1 Partners is partnering with a leading global electronic trading firm that is continuing to invest in its engineering capability in Singapore.

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join a highly technical team responsible for building and enhancing the firm's client trading infrastructure, supporting sophisticated institutional trading activity across global markets.

This is a broad engineering role covering the full trading lifecycle, with exposure to areas including order management, exchange connectivity, smart order routing, internalisation and clearing.

The team operates in a highly performance-sensitive environment where scalability, resilience and efficiency are critical. Engineers are given significant ownership and work on complex systems that process high volumes of electronic trading activity.

The Role

You will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining software across the firm's proprietary trading infrastructure.

The work is varied and can span both client-facing applications and core backend systems, with engineers expected to understand the wider architecture rather than operate within a narrow development silo.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and developing high-performance trading systems and infrastructure
• Building scalable Java applications supporting electronic order flow
• Enhancing systems across order management, routing, connectivity and post-trade workflows
• Improving the performance, reliability and efficiency of existing platforms
• Working on distributed and highly concurrent systems operating in high-throughput environments
• Identifying future technical requirements and designing solutions that can scale with the business
• Investigating complex production and performance issues across the trading stack
• Working closely with experienced engineers and stakeholders across technology and trading
• Taking ownership of projects from initial design through to implementation and production

What We Are Looking For:

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong commercial development experience with Java
• Experience designing and building distributed, scalable or highly concurrent applications
• Strong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, data structures and software design
• Experience working within complex, performance-sensitive technology environments
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to take ownership and work effectively within a collaborative engineering team
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience

• Performance optimisation
• Financial markets technology

Previous financial markets experience is not essential. The team is open to strong software engineers from other technically demanding environments who are interested in applying their experience to complex electronic trading systems.
