About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Backend Software Engineer to design, develop, and modernise enterprise backend systems using Java (Spring Boot) and Python . You will build scalable microservices, backend APIs, internal platforms, and integration services that support business operations across the organisation.

As part of our engineering transformation, you'll also leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve software quality, accelerate delivery, and enhance engineering productivity.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Development

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance backend applications using Java (Spring Boot) and Python.
• Develop scalable RESTful APIs, microservices, and backend services.
• Build internal platforms, middleware services, ETL pipelines, and integration solutions that improve business operations.
• Modernise legacy systems through refactoring and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application, database, and system integration issues.
• Optimise application performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

AI-Assisted Engineering

• Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) to improve engineering productivity.
• Utilise AI for code generation, testing, debugging, documentation, and automation.
• Review AI-generated code to ensure quality, security, maintainability, and compliance with engineering standards.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of backend software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot .
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices .
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases .
• Familiarity with Git , CI/CD pipelines , and Agile software development practices.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with any of the following will be an advantage:

• Python
• Docker and Kubernetes
• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Observability and monitoring tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog)
• System integration, middleware, or ETL development
• AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor or GitHub Copilot
