Data Centre Network Engineer / Network Support Engineer

Location: Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Employment Type: 12-Month Renewable Employment Term, 5-day work week, 9am-6pm

Job Summary

We are urgently looking for a hands-on Data Centre Network Engineer / Network Support Engineer to support enterprise network infrastructure within a mission-critical data centre environment in Johor Bahru.

The ideal candidate should have strong practical experience in network troubleshooting, routing and switching, VLANs, subnetting, firewall support, fibre connectivity and enterprise network operations.

Candidates from Network Engineer, NOC Engineer, Network Support Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, System Integrator, Telecom or Data Centre Network backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Configure, support and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls and related network infrastructure.
• Perform Layer 2 and Layer 3 troubleshooting, including VLAN, trunking, routing, switching, IP addressing, subnetting and gateway issues.
• Support switch configuration, access/trunk ports, STP, EtherChannel/LAG and network redundancy.
• Troubleshoot connectivity issues such as IP conflicts, VLAN mismatch, port errors, latency, packet loss and routing failures.
• Support firewall administration, including policy/rule changes, NAT, VPN and access control.
• Assist with network migration, firmware upgrades, maintenance windows and change activities.
• Support fibre and copper infrastructure, including patching, cable tracing, SFP/QSFP replacement and link validation.
• Perform data centre floor activities such as rack & stack, equipment installation, cabling and remote hands support when required.
• Work with internal teams, customers, vendors and contractors to resolve incidents and support project delivery.
• Maintain network diagrams, IP allocation records, cabling documentation, incident reports and change records.

Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in IT, Computer Science, Networking, Telecommunications or related discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of hands-on network support / engineering experience.
• Strong understanding of:
• TCP/IP
• IP addressing and subnetting
• VLANs
• Routing and switching
• STP / RSTP
• EtherChannel / LAG
• DNS / DHCP
• Layer 2 / Layer 3 troubleshooting
• Hands-on experience with enterprise networking platforms such as Cisco, Huawei, Aruba/HPE, Juniper, H3C, Dell, Extreme Networks or equivalent.
• Firewall exposure with Fortinet, Palo Alto, Check Point, Cisco Firepower/ASA or equivalent will be advantageous.
• Comfortable working in an on-site data centre environment.
• Able to troubleshoot independently and explain technical findings clearly.

Preferred Certifications

CCNA, HCIA/HCIP, JNCIA, Aruba, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Check Point or equivalent networking certifications are preferred.

Strong hands-on networking experience will also be considered even without formal certification.
