AWS Application Modernization Presales Solution Architect – Java

Location - Kuala Lumpur

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced AWS Application Modernization Solution Architect with deep technical expertise in Java-based applications, AWS cloud architecture, and legacy application modernization.

The successful candidate will work closely with customers to assess existing application landscapes, define modernization strategies, and design scalable, secure, and resilient AWS solutions. This role requires a combination of hands-on technical capability, solution architecture, presales consulting, and customer-facing experience.

Experience delivering modernization solutions within the banking, financial services, or insurance domain is strongly preferred.

Key responsibilities:

• Partner with sales teams and customers to understand business requirements and translate them into solution concepts
• Design and present scalable, secure, and reliable application architectures on AWS, including proposals and cost models
• Lead technical discussions, workshops, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept sessions
• Apply application development expertise (Java) with modern frontend technologies to shape solution design
• Embed DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD, containerization, and secure development principles
• Prepare solution documentation and ensure smooth handover to delivery teams

Required Experience

• Extensive experience in AWS solution architecture and application modernization.
• Proven delivery experience in multiple end-to-end legacy-to-AWS application modernization projects.
• Deep technical background in Java and Java-based enterprise applications.
• Recent hands-on experience with Java, Spring, Spring Boot, APIs, and microservices architecture.
• Experience modernizing legacy or monolithic Java applications into cloud-native architectures.
• Strong knowledge of AWS services relevant to application modernization, such as:
• Amazon EKS, ECS and Fargate
• AWS Lambda
• Amazon API Gateway
• Amazon EC2
• Amazon RDS and Aurora
• Amazon S3
• AWS Migration Hub
• AWS Application Migration Service
• AWS IAM, CloudWatch and CloudFormation
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, DevOps, and automated deployment.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, event-driven architecture, integration patterns, databases, security, observability, and performance.
• Genuine presales and customer-facing consulting experience.
• Ability to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Experience preparing and presenting solution architectures to technical and senior business stakeholders.

Domain Experience

• Strong experience delivering technology solutions within banking, financial services, or insurance.
• Understanding of BFSI security, regulatory, compliance, data-protection, integration, and availability requirements.
• Experience modernizing business-critical applications in regulated environments would be highly advantageous.

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or Associate.
• AWS application modernization, migration, DevOps, or security certifications.
• Experience with modernization assessment tools and AWS migration frameworks.
• Knowledge of the AWS Well-Architected Framework and Cloud Adoption Framework.
• Experience developing proofs of concept for Java and AWS modernization solutions.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is not solely a presales consultant or a general telecom solution architect. We require someone who can demonstrate:

• Deep and recent Java technical expertise.
• Hands-on AWS application modernization experience.
• Successful delivery of production-level modernization projects.
• Strong BFSI domain exposure.
• The ability to lead both customer-facing solution discussions and detailed technical architecture activities.
