We are seeking a detail-oriented Technical Purchaser to support the procurement of technical equipment, spare parts, consumables, and services for a fleet of vessels. The successful candidate will work closely with Technical Superintendents, suppliers, and logistics partners to ensure timely, cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement & Purchasing
- Source and procure technical spare parts, stores, consumables, lubricants, and marine services for assigned vessels.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations, negotiate pricing and delivery terms, and recommend the most cost-effective solutions.
- Prepare and process Purchase Orders (POs) in accordance with company procurement procedures.
- Monitor purchase orders from issuance through delivery, ensuring timely fulfilment of vessel requirements.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing, product quality, and reliable service.
Technical Coordination
- Liaise with Technical Superintendents and vessel personnel to understand procurement requirements and technical specifications.
- Support the procurement of materials and services for vessel repairs, maintenance, dry-docking, and emergency requirements.
- Ensure all purchased items comply with technical specifications and operational requirements.
- Logistics & Inventory
- Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, and shipping agents to ensure timely delivery of materials to vessels worldwide.
- Monitor shipment status and resolve any delivery or logistics issues.
- Assist in monitoring inventory levels and support effective stock management to prevent shortages and minimise excess inventory.
Cost Control & Administration
- Ensure procurement activities are carried out within approved budgets and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Verify supplier invoices and supporting documentation before processing.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier databases, and purchasing documentation.
- Prepare procurement reports and support management with purchasing analysis and supplier performance reviews.
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Marine Engineering, Maritime Studies, Mechanical Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
- At least 2–5 years of relevant experience in technical purchasing, marine procurement, ship management, or a related industry.
- Knowledge of marine spare parts, technical stores, and procurement processes is preferred.
- Experience coordinating with suppliers, freight forwarders, and vessel personnel.
- Strong negotiation, organisational, and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; experience with ERP or procurement systems (e.g. SAP) is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail with good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive team player with a customer-focused mindset and the ability to work independently.
