We are seeking an experienced Contract Manager to lead contract and commercial risk management activities. The role will oversee pre- and post-contract management, contract review and negotiation, risk assessment, dispute resolution, debt recovery and legal matters.

The successful candidate will work closely with Sales, Project, Commercial and external legal teams to manage contractual risks and support the company's commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Contract & Commercial Management

• Lead the Contract/Commercial team in managing pre- and post-contract administration, contractual risk, collections and dispute resolution.
• Review tender documents and contract terms to identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
• Negotiate unfavourable contractual terms and provide contractual support to Sales and Key Account teams.
• Support tender reviews and contract documentation processes.
• Monitor contractual obligations throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure accurate and compliant maintenance of contract records and documentation.
• Oversee final accounts, claims and outstanding contractual matters to support timely project closure and collections.

Risk Management & Dispute Resolution

• Lead the management and resolution of contractual disputes, working closely with clients, consultants and external legal counsel.
• Monitor legal and arbitration cases and implement appropriate resolution strategies.
• Develop strategies for recovering long-outstanding debts through appropriate commercial or legal channels.
• Support insurance claims and negotiations involving problematic projects.
• Identify contractual and commercial risks and recommend effective mitigation strategies.

Team Leadership

• Lead, coach and develop the Contract/Commercial team.
• Monitor team performance, deliverables and work quality.
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting of contractual and commercial matters.
• Drive continuous improvement in contract management processes and service levels.

Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with Sales teams on pre-contract reviews and negotiations.
• Work closely with Project teams on claims, project progress and contract management matters.
• Liaise with clients, main contractors, employers, architects, consultants and Quantity Surveyors on contractual matters.
• Manage relationships with external legal counsel, banks and insurance providers where required.
  

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Legal Studies, Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5–8 years of relevant contract management experience with a developer, main contractor or consultant.
• Experience managing large-scale projects, preferably valued at RM100 million or above.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a managerial or team leadership capacity.
• Strong knowledge of contract administration and commercial risk management.
• Proven experience in contract negotiation, claims and dispute resolution.
• Experience in credit control, debt recovery or litigation will be an advantage.
• Experience across developer, consultant and contractor environments is highly advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts and PAM contracts is preferred.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, problem-solving and risk management skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• High level of professional integrity and ability to handle confidential and sensitive commercial matters.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Professional qualifications or memberships such as RISM, MISM, MCIOB, PMP or Bar Council will be an advantage.
