Job Summary

StepStone is seeking an Analyst to join its Private Equity Investment Team in the Singapore office. The Analyst will conduct sector-focused research across areas of the private equity industry, including venture capital, growth, buyout and distressed strategies in Asia.

Working as part of the investment team, the Analyst will help identify and evaluate selected private companies and private equity funds; review private placement memoranda, financial statements and investment returns; and support reference calls and interviews. The Analyst will also have opportunities to contribute to, and present, investment recommendations to the Firm’s Investment Committee together with other members of the investment team.

Successful candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification and at least one year of relevant experience in private equity, investment banking, consulting, investment research, corporate finance or a similar analytical role. The Analyst is expected to maintain high ethical standards and demonstrate maturity, reliability and strong attention to detail.

Key Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business or a related discipline.

• Strong academic record and a demonstrated track record of professional achievement.

• At least one year of relevant experience in private equity, investment banking, consulting, investment research, corporate finance or a similar analytical role.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build professional relationships and represent the Firm effectively.

• Demonstrated analytical capabilities, including strong quantitative and financial modelling skills.

• Ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgement and work collaboratively in a team environment.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

• Adaptability and willingness to perform a range of responsibilities in a dynamic and entrepreneurial organisation.

• Ability to travel within Asia for approximately five days per month, where required for business purposes.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct market research using publicly available information and proprietary databases to identify, quantify and analyse macro economic trends across a range of industry sectors.

• Interpret financial analyses prepared by prospective fund managers, including investment track records and financial statements, and prepare valuation analyses of private companies using comparable public companies and precedent transactions.

• Support senior research professionals insourcing and managing the inflow of investment opportunities.

• Review marketing and supporting materials from prospective fund managers to identify key value drivers and areas requiring further investigation.

• Develop an independent, evidence-based view on the attractiveness of a sector or investment opportunity.

• Formulate and communicate clear investment arguments verbally and in writing, and present and defend recommendations in team discussions and Investment Committee meetings.

• Apply creative and rigorous approaches to sourcing and analysing data and testing hypotheses regarding specific sectors and investment opportunities.

• Analyse and monitor the performance of the Firm’s existing fund managers and underlying portfolio companies, prepare for and participate in meetings with assigned managers, and conduct ongoing due diligence.
