Their duties include preparing ingredients, cooking menu items, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring kitchen efficiency and safety. This role is often a starting point for a culinary career, providing hands-on experience and training. Key responsibilities
- Food preparation: Slicing vegetables, marinating meats, and preparing other ingredients for cooking.
- Cooking support: Assisting with cooking tasks like grilling, sautéing, and steaming as directed by senior chefs.
- Station management: Setting up and maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient workstation (mise en place).
- Hygiene and safety: Adhering to all food safety standards and hygiene practices, and keeping the kitchen clean and sanitized.
- Stock rotation: Rotating stock to minimize waste and ensure ingredients are fresh.
- Skill development: Learning from senior chefs and gaining experience in various kitchen stations, such as hot, cold, or pastry.
