JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Kitchen Helper (Commis 2 or Commis 3)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: RM 1,800 per month + OT Payment

Job Summary

The Kitchen Helper plays a vital role in supporting the kitchen operations by assisting with food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, organizing kitchen supplies, and ensuring the kitchen runs efficiently. The role requires teamwork, attention to detail, and adherence to food safety standards to provide an excellent dining experience for customers.

Key Responsibilities

1. Food Preparation

• Assist chefs with the preparation of ingredients, including but not limited to washing, peeling, cutting, slicing, and portioning vegetables, meat, seafood, and other food items.
• Prepare ingredients and kitchen items according to recipes and kitchen requirements.
• Ensure ingredients are properly labelled, stored, and rotated using the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) method.
• Refill ingredients and food supplies during operating hours to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

2. Kitchen Operations

• Support chefs and kitchen staff during daily food preparation and service periods.
• Assist in receiving, checking, and storing food deliveries to ensure quality and freshness.
• Organize ingredients, kitchen equipment, and storage areas to maintain an efficient working environment.
• Prepare and arrange kitchen equipment before daily operations begin.
• Assist with stock arrangement and notify the Head Chef or Restaurant Manager when stock levels are low.

3. Cleaning & Hygiene

• Wash, clean, and sanitize the kitchen, kitchen utensils, cooking equipment, and food preparation tools.
• Maintain cleanliness of food preparation areas, kitchen floors, storage rooms, refrigerators, freezers, and waste disposal areas.
• Ensure all cleaning activities comply with food hygiene and sanitation standards.
• Dispose of kitchen waste appropriately and maintain a clean and safe working environment.

4. Food Safety & Compliance

• Follow all food safety, hygiene, health, and sanitation regulations at all times.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of food to prevent contamination.
• Wear the required attire and personal protective equipment as instructed by the Management while on duty.
• Report any damaged equipment, maintenance issues, or food safety concerns to the Head Chef or Restaurant Manager immediately.

5. General Responsibilities

• Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure efficient daily operations.
• Assist during busy service periods to ensure timely food preparation.
• Maintain a positive attitude and cooperate with team members.
• Perform any other duties, tasks, or responsibilities as assigned by the Head Chef, Restaurant Manager, or Management from time to time, in support of the overall operations of the restaurant.

Job Requirements

• Malaysian citizen.
• Minimum SPM or equivalent qualification.
• Previous experience in a kitchen, restaurant, or F&B environment is an added advantage.
• Fresh candidates with a positive attitude and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
• Basic knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen safety practices is preferred.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.
• Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods and lift kitchen supplies when required.
• Responsible, disciplined, and able to work well as part of a team.
• Willing to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overtime when required.
