About The Program
The Physical Design Engineer Apprenticeship Program is designed for graduates who aspire to build a career in physical implementation and back-end IC design within the semiconductor industry.
Participants will gain hands-on exposure to the physical design flow, including floorplanning, power planning, placement, clock tree synthesis (CTS), routing, timing optimization, and physical verification using industry-standard Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools.
Program Structure
The programme consists of 1 month of intensive technical training followed by 3 months of On-the-Job Training (OJT) with a semiconductor company.
During the training phase at ASEM, Cyberjaya, you will gain practical exposure to:
During the OJT phase, you will work alongside experienced engineers, applying your technical knowledge to real semiconductor physical design projects while gaining valuable industry experience.
Responsibilities
As a Physical Design Engineer Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced engineers and gain exposure to semiconductor implementation workflows such as:
• Supporting chip implementation and physical design activities
• Assisting in floorplanning and placement exercises
• Performing timing analysis and design optimization
• Supporting power and performance analysis activities
• Assisting in physical verification tasks
• Collaborating with RTL and verification teams
• Preparing implementation reports and documentation
• Participating in engineering reviews and technical discussions
Who We're Looking For
• Fresh graduates or final-year students in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines
• Strong interest in ASIC implementation and chip design
• Basic understanding of digital circuits is an advantage
• Eagerness to learn semiconductor implementation methodologies
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Able to commit to the full training and OJT duration
