About Us
Free Malaysia Today is one of Malaysia's leading independent digital news organisations. We're looking for an IT Executive to join our team and keep our newsroom running smoothly from the ground up.
The Role
You'll be the go-to person for all things IT in the office -- from keeping our network and storage systems running, to being the first line of response when something breaks, to making sure requests from editorial and other teams reach our development team with the right context and priority.
This is not a software development role. You won't be writing production code. But you'll need to be technically curious, comfortable in a fast-paced newsroom, and good at figuring out whether a problem is something you can fix yourself or something that needs to go to the dev team.
What You'll Do
Office IT Operations
- Manage and maintain our Synology NAS -- storage allocation, backups, user permissions, and supporting the video team's editing workflow
- Handle office networking -- Wi-Fi, cabling, switches, connectivity issues
- Support office hardware including printers, label printers, and workstations
- Administer Google Workspace accounts -- onboarding and offboarding users, managing access and permissions
- Maintain basic security hygiene -- access control, endpoint management, ensuring good practices across the team
First-Line Troubleshooting
- Investigate reported issues with our website and internal tools before escalating -- things like broken links, 404 errors, caching problems, content display issues, or broken embeds
- Determine whether a problem is user error, a configuration issue, or an actual bug
- Fix simple issues independently (wrong permissions, missing redirects, caching) and document the ones that need developer attention
- Be the person who turns "the website is broken" into a clear, actionable description of what's actually wrong
Internal Request Coordination
- Receive and triage requests from editorial, video, graphics, social media, and other internal teams
- Log and categorise requests in our Notion-based tracking system with enough context for the dev team to act on them
- Route bugs, feature requests, and infrastructure issues to the right people
- Follow up on request status and keep internal stakeholders updated on progress
What We're Looking For
Must have:
- Diploma or degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field
- 0-2 years of experience in IT support, helpdesk, or a similar role (fresh graduates are welcome to apply)
- Comfortable with basic networking and hardware troubleshooting
- Able to communicate clearly in both English and Bahasa Malaysia -- you'll be translating between non-technical colleagues and a technical dev team
- Organised and able to manage multiple requests without dropping the ball
- Willing to work on-site in a newsroom environment
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with NAS systems (especially Synology)
- Experience with Google Workspace administration
- Basic understanding of how websites work -- DNS, caching, CDN, content management systems
- Experience with Notion or similar project management tools
- Exposure to a media, publishing, or content-driven environment

Pay: RM1,876.06 - RM3,455.75 per month
