The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for leading the successful execution of CEMS and industrial instrumentation projects while serving as the primary technical leader within the Projects Department.
This role is expected to operate with an Assistant Manager mindset by taking ownership of technical challenges, leading project execution, mentoring engineers and technicians, and ensuring project objectives are achieved safely, efficiently, and profitably.
The Senior Project Engineer shall be the first point of technical escalation for the engineering team. He is expected to investigate, analyse, coordinate resources, and propose solutions before escalating unresolved matters to the Technical Manager.
In addition to CEMS projects, this role will lead the implementation of new technologies, new products, and non-CEMS projects introduced by the company.
1. Technical Leadership & Ownership• Act as the first technical escalation point for Project Engineers, Service Engineers, and Technicians.
• Take ownership of technical issues and drive resolution until closure.
• Conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective actions.
• Minimise unnecessary escalations to management through independent problem-solving.
• Establish troubleshooting methodologies and technical best practices.
• Review technical decisions and engineering approaches proposed by team members.
• Ensure engineering solutions are technically sound, practical, and aligned with customer requirements.
• Provide guidance and coaching to engineers and technicians.
• Continuously build expertise on company products, systems, and applications.
2. Project Leadership• Lead CEMS projects from site survey through commissioning and final handover.
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and according to technical specifications.
• Coordinate internal resources and external stakeholders.
• Anticipate project risks and implement mitigation plans.
• Conduct project handover meetings upon receipt of Purchase Orders.
• Develop project execution plans and schedules.
• Define project resource requirements.
• Monitor project progress and address issues proactively.
• Lead technical discussions, kick-off meetings, and progress reviews with clients.
3. New Technology & Special Projects• Lead execution of non-CEMS projects assigned by management.
• Take ownership of projects involving unfamiliar technologies, products, or applications.
• Study new technologies and develop execution strategies.
• Work closely with suppliers and principals to acquire technical knowledge.
• Transfer knowledge to internal teams.
• Establish engineering standards and documentation for newly introduced products.

When facing unfamiliar projects, the expectation is not “I have never done this before.” The expectation is “I will find out, engage the right resources, build the necessary knowledge, and lead the team to deliver successfully.”
4. Engineering Design & Documentation• Prepare, review, and approve General Arrangement Drawings, Wiring Diagrams, P&ID Drawings, Instrument Hook-up Drawings, Network Architecture Drawings, Communication Interface Documents, Method Statements, and Testing Procedures.
• Ensure technical documents comply with client specifications.
• Verify compatibility of communication systems including Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet Networks, PLC Integration, and SCADA Integration.
• Ensure engineering deliverables meet company quality standards before submission.
5. DOE Compliance & Regulatory Coordination• Coordinate all technical matters related to DOE approval requirements.
• Review DOE documentation before submission.
• Support Customer Service in obtaining required information from clients.
• Ensure project implementation complies with DOE requirements and applicable standards.
• Assist in resolving technical issues arising during approval processes.
6. Procurement & Vendor Management• Review equipment specifications and bill of materials.
• Ensure proper equipment selection and procurement.
• Coordinate technical clarifications with suppliers and principals.
• Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests.
• Review supplier documentation and ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Ensure critical project materials are available according to project schedule.
7. Installation, FAT, SAT & Commissioning• Lead FAT and SAT activities.
• Ensure equipment performance meets project requirements.
• Coordinate resolution of identified issues.
• Lead commissioning activities.
• Verify system functionality and performance.
• Ensure analyzers, sampling systems, panels, and communication networks operate correctly.
• Troubleshoot technical issues during commissioning.
• Conduct technical handover to Service Team and customers.
8. iRemote & Data Connectivity Oversight• Provide overall ownership of iRemote implementation across projects.
• Assign engineers responsible for installation, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
• Monitor progress and ensure milestones are achieved.
• Verify successful communication between field equipment, local systems, and DOE platforms.
• Ensure commissioning evidence and connectivity records are properly documented.
• Coordinate with suppliers when software-related issues arise.
9. Team Leadership & Development• Mentor Project Engineers, Service Engineers, and Technicians.
• Identify competency gaps and develop improvement plans.
• Conduct technical knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Support onboarding and development of new team members.
• Foster accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and collaboration.
• Maintain positive team morale during challenging project situations.
• Create a solution-oriented culture where issues are addressed proactively.
Success Measures• Technical issues are resolved efficiently.
• Escalations to Technical Manager are reduced.
• Projects are delivered on time and within budget.
• Minimal rework and warranty issues.
• Team competency improves year-on-year.
• Team morale remains positive.
• Customer satisfaction improves.
• New technologies and project types are successfully implemented.
