Singapore Art Museum opened in 1996 as the first art museum in Singapore. Also known as SAM, we present contemporary art from a Southeast Asian perspective for artists, art lovers and the art curious in multiple venues across the island, including in the historic port area of Tanjong Pagar.

SAM is building one of the world's most important public collections of Southeast Asian contemporary art, with the aim of connecting the art and the artists to the public and future generations through exhibitions and programmes. SAM is working towards a humane and sustainable future by committing to responsible practices within its processes.

Job Description

As an intern with the Learning team, you will support the development and delivery of educational programmes and resources that engage audiences of all ages, particularly students and families. You will gain hands-on experience working across research, planning, production, programming, publicity, outreach, and stakeholder engagement, while collaborating with various departments within SAM and external partners. You will be involved in supporting exhibitions, school programmes, educational resources, and public learning initiatives that enhance visitors' understanding and appreciation of contemporary art.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand how educational programmes and exhibitions are developed and implemented within a museum setting
  • Develop communication and interpersonal skills
  • Develop work habits and attitudes necessary for museum related functions
  • Gain exposure to cross-functional collaboration and learn how different museum departments work together

Intern Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, organisation, and implementation of educational outreach programmes and learning resources
  • Assist in day-to-day operations of educational programmes such as school visits, workshops tours, drop-in activities etc
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Available to commit full-time (Monday to Friday) for a minimum of 3 months (up to 6 months), starting from Aug/Sep
  • Currently pursuing or a recent graduate from Arts Management, Arts Education, Early Childhood or a related field
  • Strong interest in visual arts and museum education
  • Meticulous, organised, resourceful, and able to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
  • Able to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team
  • Good project coordination and organisational skills; event management experience is an advantage
  • Effective research skills with strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Interested in developing student- and family-oriented experiences for exhibitions and programmes
  • Willing and able to support occasional weekend programmes and events
