About iHandal Energy Solutions

iHandal Energy Solutions is a Malaysian sustainable engineering company helping commercial and industrial clients improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and lower carbon emissions.

Founded in 2009, iHandal delivers customised Mechanical & Electrical solutions across water heating, process cooling, air conditioning, and waste heat recovery applications. Through its proprietary HeatFuse technology, the company helps clients recover wasted heat and improve overall energy performance.

Today, iHandal serves clients across hospitality, healthcare, residential, and industrial sectors throughout Malaysia and the Asia Pacific region.

About the Role

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to transform engineering concepts into machines that get built. You will translate HeatFuse heat pump and heat recovery system designs into 3D models, fabrication drawings, Bills of Materials, and technical documentation that can be manufactured with confidence.

You will work closely with engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and project teams, contributing to both project delivery and product development. Success in this role depends on technical accuracy, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high-quality design documentation.

Compensation

RM 6,000 – RM 10,000 per month, commensurate with experience.

Why iHandal

At iHandal, you will design bespoke thermal systems rather than standard catalogue products. Every project presents unique engineering challenges, giving you the opportunity to apply genuine mechanical judgment and develop broad technical expertise across multiple industries.

Your work will have a direct impact — the systems you design will be manufactured, commissioned, and deployed in real-world applications. You will also contribute to solutions that reduce energy waste and carbon emissions, supporting a more sustainable future.

Why This Role Matters

The quality of a HeatFuse system begins with its design. Accurate models, drawings, and specifications are essential to successful manufacturing, installation, and commissioning.

As the Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that designs are complete, accurate, and practical to build. Your work will directly influence project success, product performance, and client satisfaction.

What Will You Be Responsible For

1. 3D Modelling and Fabrication Drawing Production

You will create and maintain 3D models, part assemblies, and fabrication drawings for HeatFuse heat pump and heat recovery machines, working in SolidWorks across the full design lifecycle from concept through to manufacture-ready documentation. You will also configure and update Bills of Materials to support manufacturing, testing, and assembly. Models and drawings should be accurate, complete, and buildable — with the level of detail the manufacturing team needs to work without coming back with questions.

2. Technical Proposals and Product Selection

You will prepare product technical proposals for heating, cooling, and power requirements to the specification given — and generate product selection sheets and engineering data to support the broader engineering team. You will assist procurement on component sourcing, generating item codes and component specifications that reflect the design intent accurately, and provide technical input on supplier quotations where component decisions are involved.

3. Design Verification and Quality Assurance

You will ensure that all design work is conducted in accordance with applicable quality assurance requirements, safety standards, and relevant engineering codes. You will validate internal design calculations and simulations before submission for senior review, conduct preliminary quality checks on manufactured components against drawing, and flag deviations before they are escalated further. A component that does not match its drawing is a problem caught early, not discovered on site.

4. Engineering Analysis and Design Improvement

You will participate in engineering studies, tests, and performance analyses — contributing to both project-specific design challenges and broader product development work. You will actively propose design modifications that improve product efficiency, manufacturability, or cost-effectiveness, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs align with safety, quality, and operational requirements.

5. Documentation and Project Handover

You will prepare and maintain a full range of design documentation — design requirements, technical specifications, assessment documents, performance analyses, design manuals, and installation and commissioning documents. At project handover, you will ensure the Project team has everything they need to execute and commission the system without ambiguity. You will also work with the Account Management team where relevant to ensure technical documentation supports client-facing commitments.

What You Will Need to Have

Knowledge

  • A solid understanding of mechanical design principles, thermodynamics, and heat transfer as applied to heat pump or HVAC systems.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modelling, assembly design, and fabrication drawing production.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and Bills of Materials.
  • Familiarity with HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, or thermal engineering applications is an advantage.

Skills

  • Strong CAD skills — able to produce accurate, complete, and manufacture-ready models and drawings in SolidWorks.
  • Systematic approach to design verification — calculations, simulations, and quality checks done methodically and to a consistent standard.
  • Able to communicate technical design decisions clearly to manufacturing, procurement, and project teams.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; familiarity with MATLAB or thermal simulation software is an advantage.

Ability

  • Able to manage multiple design tasks simultaneously without losing accuracy or attention to detail.
  • Able to work collaboratively within an engineering team and across procurement and project delivery functions.
  • Able to take ownership of a design and see it through from concept to completed documentation without needing to be pushed.
  • Able to propose improvements proactively — not just respond to problems after they have been identified.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design, product development, or a related technical engineering role.
  • Experience with heat pump, HVAC, or thermal system design is an advantage.

How Success Will Be Measured

In this role, you will be performing well when:

  • 3D models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings are accurate, complete, and ready for manufacture without revision.
  • Design calculations and simulations are validated and submitted to the standard required for senior review.
  • Component specifications and BOMs are correct — procurement can source without coming back with questions.
  • Quality checks on manufactured components are thorough and deviations are caught and flagged early.
  • Technical documentation is complete, clearly presented, and fit for handover to the Project team.
  • Design improvements are proposed proactively — not just in response to problems.

Who This Role Is For

This role is for someone who finds genuine satisfaction in the detail — who gets energy from the moment a complex assembly comes together cleanly in SolidWorks, and understands that the precision of what is on screen is what determines the quality of what gets built.

You care about doing the design right, not just doing it fast. You understand that a fabrication drawing with one ambiguous dimension can cost more time on the workshop floor than the drawing took to produce — and you hold yourself to that standard as a matter of professional habit, not just instruction.

If you are someone who takes ownership of your designs from first model to final documentation, thrives in a role where your technical output has a direct bearing on what gets manufactured and commissioned, and is ready to grow into an Assistant Manager role in Engineering as iHandal scales — we would like to hear from you.
