Role Description

The Civil & Structural Engineer is responsible for the application of design software in the planning and design of civil and structural works, strictly adhering to established codes of practice, government and industry standards.

The role performs various functions depending on the nature of projects secured by the company, which may specialise in one or more of the following areas: consultancy and/or construction engineering encompassing geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, and forensic engineering.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

A. Primary Responsibilities

• Perform preparation of design specifications for civil and structural projects
• Incorporate special features relevant to the project at hand into specifications — including order of work, physical site conditions, construction schedules, methods of payment and measurement, construction procedures and special methods, and coordination with contractors and other stakeholders
• Perform technical review on specifications to ensure clarity, completeness, and exactness, and to remove restrictive descriptions so as to ensure competitive bidding
• Visit proposed project sites to obtain necessary information for project specification, including condition and location of site, storage and staging areas, and character and scope of work
• Provide guidance and technical advice to engineering personnel, the Engineering and Construction Department, and Architect-Engineer firms to develop basic specification procedures and policies covering new types of projects and structures
• Communicate with higher authorities on issues concerning specifications, engineering interpretations and explanations, supply of items, and items of work; offer recommendations on reviewing specifications

B. Progressive Responsibilities (Upon Development of Experience)

As your experience and technical knowledge develop with the company, you shall also be responsible for the following:

• Ensure that all projects adhere to applicable regulations; gather and submit permit applications to relevant government agencies including local, state, and federal authorities
• Coordinate and provide correct scope of work for land surveyors, soil testing firms, and other investigation companies prior to commencement of any works
• Ensure all materials used comply with QA/QC requirements in accordance with project standards and specifications
• Determine the economic feasibility of projects by working out estimated costs of production, including costs of equipment, materials, and labour

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline
• 3–5 years of relevant working experience in civil or structural engineering design and site supervision
• Registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) — Graduate Engineer status or above preferred
• Experience in Project Management for engineering projects
• Proficiency in design tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD, STAAD.Pro, or similar)
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Familiar with Malaysian Standards (MS EN, BS, or equivalent) and local authority submission processes (JKR, MBSA, DOE, etc.)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia
• Willingness to travel to project sites within Malaysia
