Director of Data Engineering

About our Client: Our client is a Tier 1 Fortune 500 financial institution with a strong presence across the globe with main presence in America, Europe, and the Middle East. They are currently in the midst of expanding the team and undergoing a transformative change, hence they are looking for someone to lead the modern data engineering initiative.

Location: Selangor

About Role:

• Leads the regional roadmap for modern data engineering and develops scalable, long-term practices aligned with organizational objectives and vision.
• Evaluate existing architecture, and technological landscape for data engineering whilst driving adoption of modern teechnology stack
• To be specific, champion the adoption of Snowflake, Apache Iceberg, dbT, AWS, and Hadoop.
• Oversee the technical strategy for highly scalable pipelines, data lakehouse architecture, real time processing and data mesh implementations whilst promoting engineering excellence through optimal practises in areas not limited to data modelling, CI/CD, data/AI ops, etc..
• To emphasize, adoption of dbT and Apache Iceberg are of top priorities, including modern cloud-native architectures
• Develop culture and talent strategy to attract, retain some of the world's best data engineering talents.
• Work with global leaders to build, scale, and retain talents across all levels.
• Establish SLAs, operational metrics, and incident management processes for production data systems
• Advance CI/CD adoption using modern orchestration and DevOps tools
• Guarantee compliance by ensuring platforms and products meet enterprise security, privacy, and regulatory requirements

Required Profile

• Over a decade of experience (minimum) in highly scalable data engineering environment with strong technical leadership.
• Experience of leading or managing a team of at least 10 people, ideally 20 over a period of 3 years at least.
• Technical expertise that is a must: AWS, Snowflake, DBT, Apache Iceberg, Hadoop ecosystem, Python and SQL.
• Experience in scalable data architecture and real-time processing and streaming.
• Experience and strong understanding of financial institutions, fintech or banking experience will be highly advantageous. 

Ideal Profile:
 -
- Experience managing a large team distributed globally
- Experience/exposure to ML and AIops
- Data governance experience - Informatica/Alation/Collibra
- Expertise in real-time streaming - Kafka/Kinesis/Event Hubs, etc..
