Job Purpose
The D&E Manager supports the D&E Director in leading and managing the Design & Engineering (D&E) team to ensure the timely, accurate, and cost-effective delivery of design, engineering, and production documentation, while driving continuous improvement and strong cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering Management
- Coordinate with the Production and Project Departments on prototype development and First Article Inspection (FAI) preparation.
- Ensure all prototypes are completed and ready for customer review within agreed timelines.
- Ensure Bills of Material (BOM) and all engineering drawings are regularly reviewed and updated in collaboration with the Project Department.
- Maintain consistency and accuracy between BOMs, part drawings, shop drawings, and cutting lists.
Cost Optimization & Value Engineering
- Drive Value Engineering initiatives to reduce material costs and improve production efficiency across all product ranges.
- Collaborate with the Costing Department to analyze pre- and post-costing data and identify opportunities to improve product profitability.
Team Leadership & Performance Management
- Set clear and challenging goals for the D&E team and lead through motivation, guidance, and support.
- Assist the D&E Director in preparing job descriptions and KPIs for D&E staff.
- Ensure all D&E staff achieve KPI targets and meet performance expectations.
- Monitor staff performance and implement improvement or development initiatives when necessary.
- Improve team efficiency in BOM preparation and engineering drawing development.
Planning, Coordination & Reporting
- Conduct weekly D&E meetings to monitor project progress and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Ensure effective coordination among D&E, Production, Project, Procurement, and Management teams.
- Prepare and submit monthly D&E reports according to management timelines.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for leading the Production Department when required by Management.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by Management from time to time.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience in Design & Engineering, Manufacturing, or Product Development, with at least 2–3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of BOM structures, technical drawings, prototype development, and manufacturing processes.
- Proven experience in Value Engineering, cost optimization, and productivity improvement.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including Production, Project, Procurement, and Costing.
- Strong leadership, people management, and performance-driven mindset.
- Good analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficient in engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Pay: RM12,000.00 - RM15,000.00 per month
