Our client is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Android Platform) based in Kuala Lumpur to shape and evolve the technical direction of their mobile architecture across the Asia-Pacific region. Combining hands-on native Android development with strategic platform thinking, this role focuses on driving developer productivity, architecture modernization, reusable shared libraries, AI enablement initiatives, and overall developer experience.

key responsibilities include:

• Defining and evolving standard architecture patterns, platform capabilities, reference implementations, and technical benchmarks across Android applications.

• Designing, delivering, and maintaining reusable Android components, shared SDKs, and platform frameworks using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.

• Supporting Android architecture upgrades, navigation library updates, and legacy XML layout modernization.

• Streamlining the local developer experience through Android Studio configurations, development tooling, sample apps, documentation, and migration guides.

• Partnering with product domain teams, iOS engineering counterparts, and distributed teams in Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne on shared initiatives and AI enablement.

• Coaching and mentoring engineers, participating in communities of practice, and elevating overall Android engineering standards.

about the requirements:

qualifications

• Significant commercial experience developing native Android applications.

skills

• Expert-level Kotlin knowledge, along with hands-on experience in Jetpack Compose, Android SDK, and modular application architecture.

• Proficiency in working with XML layouts and maintaining or refactoring legacy codebases.

• Strong knowledge of mobile CI/CD pipelines and automated software delivery practices.

• Proven ability to collaborate, communicate, and influence effectively across multiple engineering teams.

• Preferred experience in designing and evolving platform SDKs, shared libraries, or developer tools.

• Background in Android architecture modernization, navigation library upgrades, mobile observability capabilities, and shared UI component libraries is an added advantage.
