We are looking for a detail-oriented and compliance-minded Underwriting Specialist to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for assessing, evaluating, and processing applications accurately and efficiently in accordance with the Company's underwriting guidelines, risk criteria, and compliance requirements.
You will be expected to make informed and consistent underwriting decisions, maintain high data quality, and deliver a professional experience for applicants throughout the review process. This is a role that values accuracy, fairness, integrity, and sound judgment above all else.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Application Review & Assessment
— Review and assess applications received in accordance with the Company's underwriting guidelines and risk criteria.
— Verify supporting documents submitted by applicants including identification, income documents, and other required materials.
— Evaluate application data against defined eligibility criteria and make accurate, consistent approval or rejection decisions.
— Process applications within the stipulated turnaround time and service level targets.
— Ensure all decisions are well-documented and supported by clear rationale in the system.
2. Risk Identification & Escalation
— Identify and flag high-risk, fraudulent, incomplete, or anomalous applications for further review or escalation.
— Escalate borderline, complex, or policy-exception cases to the Underwriting Supervisor for guidance or approval.
— Report recurring patterns, data discrepancies, or system issues to the supervisor promptly.
3. Data Entry & Record Management
— Accurately enter and update application data, decisions, and case notes into the underwriting or CRM system.
— Maintain proper records of all processed applications, supporting documents, and communication history.
— Ensure all records are audit-ready, complete, and maintained in accordance with data protection and compliance standards.
4. Compliance & SOP Adherence
— Ensure all underwriting activities are conducted in accordance with company policies, SOPs, and applicable regulatory requirements.
— Adhere to approved underwriting scripts, decision frameworks, and customer handling standards.
— Handle applicant data and personal information responsibly in compliance with PDPA 2010 and internal data protection policies.
5. Performance & KPI Management
— Meet individual productivity and quality KPIs including daily case volumes, accuracy rates, turnaround time, and approval consistency.
— Maintain service quality standards and achieve individual performance expectations set by the team lead.
— Participate in team huddles, performance reviews, and training sessions to continuously improve underwriting knowledge and skills.
6. Team Collaboration & Ad Hoc Support
— Work closely with the underwriting team, customer service, operations, and compliance departments to support smooth workflow.
— Provide timely and professional responses to internal queries relating to case status or decisions.
— Assist with special projects and perform ad hoc duties as assigned by management.
Qualification Requirements:
1. Minimum SPM / Diploma qualification. A Degree in Business, Finance, or a related field is an added advantage.
2. Prior experience in underwriting, credit assessment, customer service, or call centre operations is preferred.
