Technician (IETS)

Job Description

The IETS Technician is responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the Industrial Effluent Treatment System (IETS) to ensure treated wastewater complies with Department of Environment (DOE) Standard B discharge limits.

Job Scope & Key Responsibilities

System Operations & Monitoring

• Operate and monitor all IETS unit processes, including pumps, blowers, clarifiers, and chemical dosing systems.
• Conduct regular plant rounds and record operational data such as meter and pressure gauge readings.
• Control critical process parameters including pH, DO, COD, BOD, TSS, SV30, and turbidity to maintain treatment efficiency.

Sampling, Testing & Record-Keeping

• Collect wastewater samples and perform laboratory tests on water quality.
• Ensure final discharge samples are sent to accredited labs according to schedule.
• Maintain accurate logs of operational data, lab results, chemical usage, maintenance activities, and sludge disposal records.
• Ensure all IETS records are properly filed and readily available for DOE inspections and internal audits.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on pumps, blowers, dosing systems, and monitoring instruments.
• Troubleshoot process and equipment issues to minimize downtime and ensure continuous treatment processes.
• Carry out basic maintenance and calibration of equipment.

Chemical Handling & Compliance

• Adjust chemical dosing (e.g., PAC, NaOH, HCL) based on process requirements.
• Handle and manage scheduled waste in compliance with Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations, including labelling, storage, and inventory.
• Ensure no illegal discharge and check for sources immediately if any issues arise.
• Ensure operations comply with Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations 2009 and DOE requirements.

Emergency Response & Safety

• Respond quickly to emergency situations such as equipment failures, power outages, spills, or parameter deviations.
• Implement containment and cleanup procedures during emergency situations.
• Adhere to health and safety rules and maintain good housekeeping practices.
