Data Engineer (Microsoft Fabric & Azure)

Location: Malaysia / Hybrid

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We're looking for a curious, hands-on mid-level Data Engineer with 2-4 years of experience who loves building modern data platforms and solving real business problems with data.

You will work with enterprise customers across multiple industries to design, build, and optimize data solutions on Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Azure. Beyond traditional data engineering, you'll have opportunities to work with AI-enabled analytics, modern BI platforms, and next-generation engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot Enterprise, Claude Code, and other agentic development capabilities.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys learning new technologies, engaging with customers, and translating business challenges into scalable data solutions.

What You'll Be Doing:

Data Platform Engineering

• Design and develop modern data platforms using Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, OneLake, Dataflows, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Pipelines, and related Azure services.
• Build scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform, and serve data for reporting, analytics, and AI workloads.
• Implement medallion architecture, data governance, data quality, and security best practices.
• Optimize performance, scalability, and cost efficiency across enterprise data environments.

Analytics & Dashboarding

• Develop semantic models and analytical data structures to support business intelligence initiatives.
• Collaborate with analysts and business stakeholders to deliver impactful dashboards and reports using Power BI.
• Help customers derive actionable insights through effective data modelling and visualization.

AI-Driven Engineering

• Leverage modern engineering productivity tools such as GitHub Copilot Enterprise, Claude Code, and other AI-assisted development tools.
• Explore opportunities to incorporate AI, agentic workflows, and automation into data engineering practices.
• Contribute to reusable accelerators, templates, and engineering best practices.

Customer & Consulting Engagement

• Work directly with business users, technical teams, and executives to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
• Facilitate workshops, requirements gathering sessions, solution walkthroughs, and technical discussions.
• Translate business requirements into technical designs and implementation plans.
• Support pre-sales activities, proof of concepts, and solution demonstrations when required.

What We're Looking For:

Required Skills

• Experience in Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, or Analytics Engineering.
• Strong SQL and data modelling skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure data services.
• Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration solutions.
• Understanding of modern cloud data architecture principles.
• Familiarity with Git-based development and CI/CD practices.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities.

Preferred Skills

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric.
• Experience with OneLake, Fabric Data Engineering, Fabric Data Factory, Warehouse, and Power BI.
• Microsoft certifications such as:
• DP-700: Fabric Data Engineer Associate
• DP-600: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate
• DP-203: Azure Data Engineer Associate
• Experience with dashboarding and data visualization.
• Knowledge of Python, Spark, PySpark, or notebooks.
• Exposure to AI, Copilots, LLM applications, or agentic workflows.

Nice to Have

• Consulting or professional services background.
• Experience managing multiple customer engagements simultaneously.
• Experience working with stakeholders across business and technical functions.
• Experience delivering solutions across industries such as financial services, retail, manufacturing, logistics, or public sector.
